Product Reviews of gDiapers Little gPants 2-Pack Orange & Vanilla, SmallProduct Review: Create less waste Summary: 4 Stars
I've been using these gdiapers for about a month now. Makes us feel better that we are creating less waste for the landfill. You can compost wet ones and toss or flush soiled ones. We choose to toss to conserve water usage. These diapers actually break down unlike regular disposable diapers.
Product Review: Cute but leaks almost every time Summary: 2 Stars
We loved the way these little pants look and the whole system seemed so elegant. Except every single time we used our g diapers, they leaked. Even after 1 hour of our son wearing the diapers they would leak through his clothes. We tried different liners, tried turning the diaper around, putting double liners in, and nothing worked. So finally we had to give up and use a different brand. So sad because they are so cute looking, they just don't work, at least not for our boy!
Product Review: Disappointing Summary: 2 Stars
I was excited to start using G Diapers when my daughter was about 6 weeks. We bought a 2 pack of small g pants and 2 packs of disposable liners. From the start, the G Pants seemed too small and tight for our 10lb. baby. They left red marks on her skin from being too tight. They did ok with just urine, but every time she had a bowel movement, it ruined the plastic liner and cloth part of the G Diaper. It often got on her clothes as well. After a couple of weeks, we decided that maybe they were just too small and bought the medium G Pants and disposable liners. They are huge on her, and we've had the same problems with blowouts as we did with the smaller ones. I feel like we don't even get to use the G Diapers much, because they are always in the laundry. Also, we never flushed the disposable inserts- to flush them, you have to tear the dirty insert apart on both sides, pull open and the inner core falls in the toilet, you have to swish with a stick to break it up, toss in the outer part and then flush. When you have a baby, it's much easier to toss in a trash can.
I like the idea of G Diapers with disposable inserts, but they have been a disaster for us. We've ended up paying more for less convenient diapers that are much less effective for us. I'm going back to disposables, and we'll try to conserve/reuse in other parts of our lives! I will say this though- G Diapers are pretty cute!
Product Review: Disappointment Summary: 2 Stars
I was so excited to hear about this hybrid cloth/paper diaper, but it was a big disappointment. They weren't that easy to use. They leaked and our pipes slowed down considerably when we flushed them. Also we had to wash the outer layer often... so we might as well be using cloth. Now, we've switched to partial fuzzibuzz (after she has done her morning poop) and partial seventh generation... our own hybrid. It works better for us.
Product Review: Fewer blowouts and better for the planet Summary: 5 Stars
I admit I haven't done careful cost comparisons, but for us, any extra expense is worth it. We have 8 of the cloth shells, so even if one leaks now and then, we don't have to do laundry immediately. The shells are a big investment upfront, but now that our daughter is in the mediums, I expect she's going to be wearing this set for a long time -- spreading the cost out nicely over time. We do not feel we're breaking the bank much more than we would be for "normal" diapers, and we are delighted not to have bags and bags of trash. We used disposable diapers for the first few weeks with our newborn (while we were adjusting to life with baby!) and felt like we were running to the trash chute every day. Now we are all g-diaper all the time, so we flush the disposable inserts, hand-rinse any liners that get caught in the poop crossfire, and overall have had no problems (with the bonus that poop gets flushed right away -- which means no smelly diaper pails). Thanks to the elastic waistband, blowouts are few and far-between (unlike when we used disposables) which keeps our laundry under control.
NEWS about the velcro: I had one diaper with bad velcro and contacted g-diapers about it; they said they have recently changed their velcro (and I believe them -- most of the velcro is really strong -- it was just this one diaper that didn't seem to be holding) but a few of the old ones were still out there on the market. They couldn't swap out a used diaper, but they immediately sent me new velcro tabs free of charge, which I didn't mind sewing on myself, and those are much better. The company stands by its product and has great customer service. I'm willing to pay more for that and for the environmental benefits of less waste. If the price is right for you, g-diapers are a great option.
