Product Review: BEST DIAPERS EVER!
Summary: 5 Stars

My daughter is now 9 months old and we started gDiapers a couple months ago. They are a fantastic alternative to the junky plastic diapers that everyone uses. I had looked into cloth diapers when she was born but couldn't bring myself to do it. Too gross for me. SO-our grocery store started carrying gDiapers and we decided to try them. They really are a great alternative and I feel like I'm doing something better for the earth.
My daughter is still in the medium at almost 17lbs. I'm thinking she'll be in them for a long time. She is tall and thin for her age. When flushing, I do swish because sometimes my toilet gets clogged but all in all it works great. Even if you decide to throw them away, gDiapers only take 50-150 DAYS to decompse as opposed to up to 150 Years for the plastic diapers. I just feel better about using them...and they're super cute just to wear with a T-shirt on really hot days!
Do watch the video's on the gDiaper website. They're very helpful and you can call any time to ask for advise. Also, when it comes to wipes, it's hard to find "biodegradable". Amazon carries a few: Natural Choices, Avalon Organic (these are flushable but according the the reviews they are very small and thin), and a few others. Most wipes contain plastic believe it or not....Next Generation wipes are NOT biodegradable.

Product Review: Best diapering option for baby, parents and the planet!
Summary: 4 Stars

I love gDiapers! I tried them because they are the greenest option, and also found them to be very practical. Flushing the inserts is very easy, and though it's an extra step it's really not that much work, especially for all the benefits for the planet, and thus our children. That also means no diaper pail to empty.
Fitting them correctly takes a little practice, but once you get the hang of it there are no leaks. I recommend watching the videos on the gDipers website.
As for performance I get fewer leaks with these than with disposables. My water pressure is great so I can flush the inserts without swishing.
The only con is the price, since they are the most expensive diapers and they are not easy to find in stores. Of course the price is because of the materials they use and that they don't produce them by the billions like other brands. Hopefully as more people use them they'll become more affordable and available. Because of this I use cloth diapers at home and gDiapers when traveling or on long outings. Also the gDiapers covers (little g's) can be used as a cover for cloth diapers (using a cloth insert instead of the flushable insert).
A final recommendation: even though they have little g's in lots of colors and patterns on their website, it's cheaper to get several starter kits than to buy little g's separately, if you don't mind only sticking to the two colors that come in the starter kit.

Product Review: Bonus with Amazon
Summary: 5 Stars

I first saw these at Whole Foods, and decided to come read reviews before I purchased. I was impressed with the reviews, and decided to do as others recommended and buy starter kits due to the cost. I found they were a couple dollars cheaper at Whole Foods, but ordered 2 from Amazon as well. I was happy with the kit from Amazon, b/c it included 2 extra liners (plus no tax and free shipping)! If I decide I need more little g pants, I will just order more starter kits from Amazon.

I LOVE these diapers, and feel better about what I'm doing for the environment. My son's skin has never been so dry after taking off a wet diaper, and his skin is so healthy.

We try to flush all the diapers, but are going to get some biodegrateable bags for when we need to throw them away. As my husband pointed out, if you throw the diapers away, even though they break down, if they are in a plastic trash bag or Diaper Genie bag, they won't be able to break down.

Some people argue that flushing the gDiapers wastes water, but not any more water than if your baby were already using the toilet, and not as much water as washing cloth diapers. You can also time your diaper flushing to when Mom or Dad use the toilet to save on flushes. ;)

All in all, I'm very happy with gDiapers, and would recommend them to anyone looking for a earth-friendly, healthy baby alternative to regular disposables.

Product Review: Dependable and versatile diaper
Summary: 5 Stars

I am a mother of 11 month-old baby girl. I decided to switch to gDiapers after I saw a short feature about it on the Rachael Ray show. I was a little reluctant to try it because it costs more than your regular disposable diaper. But in my quest for a greener household, I decided to buy them. The only concern I had with this product was that the insert tends to bunch up in the front...but I haven't had a leak yet. My daughter HATES having her diapers changed and will squirm and scream while I fasten the straps of her old disposables and button up her onesie. I seem to be able to fasten up the g pants faster than I am able to do with a disposable, so diapering is done before she realizes what had happened (I put a g pant with a fresh inset under the one I am changing and do a quick switch).

The diapers flush fine even without swishing (hope this one doesn't bite me later on) but make sure you throw the outer liner into the toilet just when the water is going down to make sure you don't clog the toilet (I learned that one really quick!). If you are grossed out by the thought of holding a dirty diaper, peeling off the sides, and flushing the guts in the toilet (even if the back end of the insert is hardly ever soiled or wet), then this may not be for you.

I have read that g pants work very well with prefolds, so I am going to try that soon. Because my daughter's daycare does not allow the use of cloth diapers (!), we will be using g diaper inserts at daycare and cloth at home. With this system, I won't have to buy separate pants and liners for the cloth diapers.

Product Review: Excellent diapering alternative
Summary: 4 Stars

After I potty trained my second child, I was fairly disgusted with the amount of waste one entire diapering experience generates. I came across gDiapers, a new company at the time, and decided that if I ever had a third child, I would give these a serious go.

Well, about four years later, that third child DID come, and we started out immediately with gDiapers. Initially, I had a lot of problems with leaking and blowouts. I tried every which way to get it to fit properly, but every diaper change ended up with a clothing change, too. I began to get pretty frustrated. Finally, we arrived at a workable solution and I finally began to enjoy my gDiaper experience. These are my recommendations:

1) The plastic liner really DOES need to come up high between the legs. The cloth cover should be pulled out of the crease around the legs.

2) The flushable pad needs to be completely contained within the liner; if you're not careful, the edges of it can slide out and wick the moisture right onto the cover and then the clothes. I take the extra time to carefully fold the edges underneath the pad when I stuff the liner.

3) Make sure that the liner up by the snaps does not overlap the cloth when you fasten the velcro--same wicking issue will result.

4) Nighttime requires a Gerber plastic pant over the whole thing. In the morning I just expect that the whole cloth cover has also contributed its absorbancy.

5) You can double up the liners, but be careful not to stuff the liner so much that the edges are pushed away from the baby's skin. That's what you need for a good seal.

6) I find that for most diaper changes, the liner does not get dirty or wet in the back (as long as he hasn't pooped) so I've taken to cutting off the rear third of the liner and doubling it under the next liner in the front, where he wets the most. It definitely makes for the most economic and environmental use of the pads.

7) Lastly, part of our recent success is that the baby has gotten a little older. I think they just tend not to fit certain newborns very well, especially ones without a chubby tummy. I had to pull those velcro sides so far that I could get a good seal, but that would overlap the liner with the cover. Plus, the liner would gap around his skinny thighs. The baby is 4 months old now and I expect to use these from here on out! Maybe we just weren't doing it right to start, but something about the combination of moving him up to Mediums, and his own growth finally resulted in a positive outcome.

Once fit issues are addressed, the only drawback to them has been the extra work involved in diapering this way, plus the fact that you definitely have to get a little more "intimate" with the contents. But to be honest, I'm much happier spending an extra minute or two dealing with diapering than the alternative. I feel that the instant throwaway of a disposable is really not a tolerable convenience anymore.

In the end (no pun intended), I'm very happy with my decision to go with gDiapers and I'm pleased that we've mostly worked out the kinks. Plus, you can't beat the serious cuteness of a baby bottom in a gDiaper.
