Product Reviews of Zyrtec Children's Allergy Relief (10 mg), Grape, 12-Count Chewable Tablets

Product Review: More Affordable than Claritin
Summary: 5 Stars

My children both have seasonal allergies and have gone from using Claritin liquid, to chewables. We tried Claritin tablets and liked them. For their tastebuds they are the best tasting of the antihistamine chewables.

However, having told you that, I'm now going to say that we have switched over to Zyrtec. For one thing, they seem to work better for my son. And for another thing, now that my daughter is 10, they are the more affordable solution.

You see, at a certain weight, one Claritin ceases to work so well and, in fact, the package says to give children two. Now anybody who has bought Claritin knows how expensive it is. Now imagine doubling that price... and using 2 pills every night. Ridiculous.

BUT with Zyrtec, we only need to give one. You see, Zyrtec is offered at the 10mg size, not 5mg as with Claritin. Thus we only have to pay for 2 chewables per night, not three.

Now if I can only convince Amazon to carry them again.

THE SKINNY:::
Seems to work better for my son who has a particularly strong allergy to grasses.

Tastes okay, if not as good as Claritin.

Much more affordable.

Product Review: OTC, thanks to the insurance industry
Summary: 3 Stars

Zyrtec is most commonly taken under a physician's orders. Now that it is available over the counter instead of by prescription, however, most insurance plans won't pay for it. And to make matters worse, the children's chewable tablets that used to be sold in large packages are now sold only in small packs, to hide the fact that most people will have to pay much more per tablet than they did before the switch. Yes, the product works fine, and no, it isn't particularly prone to abuse. But that's true of many other pharmaceuticals. This one is OTC mainly because the manufacturer can make more money this way and insurance companies benefit by not having to cover it any longer.

These 10mg tablets are a much better deal than the 5mg ones; if your kid takes only 5mg, buy these and split them in half. (They're chewable, so what's the difference?)

Product Review: This stuff works wonders. I am 31 and I prefer the chewables !
Summary: 5 Stars

I was taking Allegra for my nasal allergies and the bad part was that it took FOR-EVER to kick in.It also gave me bad headaches and joint pain. Singulair made me feel loopy. I don't like to take an allergy pill daily because I mostly suffer in the Spring, Fall, and when I am around animals. The Nasonex spray did nothing.

My allergies have started up again for the Fall and I have been absolutely miserable with sneezing, drippy nose, itchy nose, and watery red scratchy eyes. I took one of my daughter's chewable Zyrtec on a whim and WOW. Within like 5 minutes I was not sneezing and my sinuses had quit pouring ! Today I woke up sneezing, sneezing, sneezing and took a chewable Zyrtec. Again, within minutes...MUCH better ! I am asking the doctor if he can get me a prescription for this so it will be cheaper...OR ...if I can get my daughter's old prescription renewed I am going to do that !!
