Product Reviews of Zyrtec Allergy Relief (10 mg), 45-Count TabletsProduct Review: Lesser of the two evils Summary: 2 StarsSince I am one of those unlucky few with no job and unable to afford health insurance, there is no way I could pay a doctor and a prescription for the allergy medication that works for me, so I gave Zyrtec a try.
My allergies can get pretty nasty. Last few days I had to hold a handkerchief to my nose nearly full time, as it feels I had an open water faucet. Of course there are other debilitating symptoms.
My problem with Zyrtec is that it makes me pretty sleepy and lethargic. And what is worse totally congested, like I simply cannot breath out of my nose. Very uncomfortable. I even talk funny.
And that is what brought me here, looking for a 'safe' decongestant which I will not get addicted to or set my heart off to 300 beats per minute.
Product Review: Allergy relief at a great price! Summary: 5 StarsI have taken zyrtec for over 20 years now. This great little tablet works very well for allergies and at this price I will continue to buy!
Product Review: Worked but knocked me OUT Summary: 3 StarsMy main response to taking zyrtec is - holy cow. ...For both good and bad reasons!
I have terrible allergies to pollen, dust, mold, etc. and lately it's been so bad that I get extremely stuffed up and wake up with vertigo. Even benadryl isn't quite cutting it anymore. So, I tried zyrtec last night. I took one pill at about 11:30 pm and went to bed. I got up at 7:30 today and barely had the energy to move. I sat down on the couch at about 8:15 and started checking my email and was so drowsy from this medication that I slept for about 2 hours! I would wake up for bits in between but it was soooo hard to keep my eyes open for longer than about 10 seconds. I'm STILL drowsy and it's 11:15! I also felt really dehydrated this morning, even my eyes were dry and that's never the case.
The plus side is that it worked for my allergies. I'm not stuffed up at all (and I did not take the "d" decongestant version - it must all be from the pill clearing up my reaction), I can actually breathe through my nose (amazing, never happens!). I would love to take this all the time!
I'll try cutting it down to half a pill and taking it a few hours before bed so that hopefully the drowsiness will wear off by the next morning.
My recommendation would be - try half a pill first, but in any case, DEFINITELY try this at night, and hopefully not right before a day that will be busy or require much activity!
Product Review: Extreme Drowsiness, Not That Effective Summary: 2 StarsZyrtec doesn't work for me. I know it's supposed to be non-sedating, and some reviewers seem to back that up. For my part, I can only say that it completely knocked me out. I had to go home in the middle of my work day to sleep for a couple of hours, and didn't return to anything close to my normal energy level until about 15 hours after taking it.
It did have some beneficial effect on my alergies, but not more than other OTC drugs like Claritin (loratadine), which is non-sedating.
Product Review: DOESN'T WORK Summary: 1 StarsI tried this item during the height of my alergies. It made me sleepy... but I expected that. However, it didn't touch my red, swollen, watery eyes. My breathing was a bit easier but the product specifically indicates that it effects alergy symptoms including the eyes. If you suffer from heavy allery symptoms, I don't recommend this item. Try Zyrtec-D or Clariton-D instead.
