Customer Review: Alternative to Prilosec

Everything that Chilltown Y2J says in his review is correct. Zegerid, manufactured by Schering-Plough, really is an improved version of Prilosec. It employs sodium bicarbonate as a buffer to protect the main active ingredient (omeprazole) from gastric acid degradation. Unlike Prilosec, which consists of pills in a blister pack, Zegerid consists of capsules, 14 of which are packed in a tamper-proof plastic bottle, so in this case you receive three bottles, which I prefer for storage.
And, needless to say, the price is significantly lower than that for Prilosec.

Zegerid Capsules is the an Immediate-Release Proton Pump Inhibitor. It contains omeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor (PPI), and sodium bicarbonate, an antacid, which raises the gastric pH and thus protects omeprazole from acid degradation.Antacids
