Product Reviews of Wedge Pillow for Acid Reflux. Doctor Recommended. Patented Folding Wedge Pillow for GERD, Sleep Apnea, Snoring. 32" L, 24" W, 7" HProduct Review: Medslant: The Answer to Not raising your bed Summary: 5 Stars
I was skeptical of this product but my dr. had told me that with a hiatal hernia and very bad reflux I had to do something. We tried every way to raise our bed up but it was just not good for the frame that we had. It took me only 2 nights to get the medslant positioned the way I wanted it. You can sleep on either side or your back and it works great. It's not a cure for acid reflux or GERD but it allows you to sleep while you have this problem. My husband loves it too because he said it has cured my snoring. Prior to having this problem I had always thought of people with it as being overweight and eating a lot at night. I am not overweight and I am dont eat at night. Thank you to Medslant for making such a great product. I actually was a bit leary since the one man said his smelled bad. When we purchased a memory foam mattress and pillows they had an odor for over a month but the wedge pillow had no odor. I have an incredibly sensitive nose and I smelled nothing so dont worry about that. I think the other guy just got a bad product and as he said they wanted to replace it.
Product Review: Most comfortable wedge I have ever used Summary: 5 Stars
This is the third wedge I have tried since I have been trying to sleep with GERD. This one is the most comfortable, the uneven foam (works like an egg crate style) allows your body to completely relax and sink right in, and the elongated pillow prevents you from sliding down the pillow keeping your head elevated.
This one is a little higher in price, but it is really worth it since it is so well made. It is like a custom pillow, conforming to your body when you sleep. It folds for travelling and a travel case is provided. I will buy this one again when my current one wears out (if it does).
Product Review: Not one good night of sleep on this thing! Summary: 1 Stars
First, please accept my apologies if my review seems grumpy. Lack of sleep can make me irritable.
I purchased this because my doctor said I had to sleep with my head raised to a level higher than my stomach due to gastritis. I have had this pillow for 3 weeks and have not had a single good night of sleep on it.
First let me say that I sleep on my back so I thought this would be a great cure and something I would hardly notice. Not so, my lower back aches from the angle. I find myself sliding down the pillow during the night. I toss and turn and just cannot stay in a deep sleep.
After 3 weeks I am tossing this pillow off the bed and can't wait to get a full, deep, luxurious night of sleep. This thing is pure torture to me. We will search for another way to help me with my gastritis but this way is not for me.
Oh, it did help my gastritis but the lack of sleep and extreme back pain is impacting the rest of my work and home life.
Product Review: Pillow works great, but badly needed washing first Summary: 3 Stars
I have severe reflux (GERD) and got the pillow several weeks ago to help myself sleep at night.
I was worried that it would be hard to sleep on, and seven inches tall seemed like a bit of a slant. But, it is made of a quite compressible hypoallergenic polyureathane foam that compresses down from seven inches to perhaps four when you are resting on it, and I had a good night's sleep, even the first night. The soft material is very comfortable, and my reflux is vastly improved. Having used it for several weeks, I don't expect to ever go back to a regular pillow.
Unfortunately, the pillow had a strong polyureathane chemical smell when it showed up. The smell was strong enough that it was unuseable. I brought it to bed briefly, but my wife insisted that I get it out of her bed, and I agreed.
The next day I washed the polyureathane foam in the bathtub with mild soap and water and wrung it out with my hands as best as I could. You can't machine dry polyureathane (it disintegrates), so I left it outside in the 85 degree California sun. After two days, I could still wring water out of it -- it wasn't getting dry. I then covered it with beach towels, and rolled it up tight using my knees. After repeating this three times with dry towels, it was noticeably lighter (less water trapped inside). I let it air dry for another day and called it done.
That did the trick, and now I use the pillow every night.
It is a very comfortable pillow and has solved my reflux issues. I am glad to have it, I just wish it was useable right out of the box.
Edit: MedSlant contacted me when they heard of the difficulties I had. They offered to send me a new pillow and expressed surprise -- they have had less than 10 complaints about odor in their 3 years of selling these pillows. I turned down the new pillow (mine smells fine now) and thanked them. Then they refunded my purchase (I never even asked!). They were very polite and I could not ask for a better customer support experience!
Product Review: Poor Design Summary: 2 Stars
The determination to make this pillow foldable for travel spoiled what would otherwise be a good product. The two piece design causes the bottom part to become unstable and move as you move and thereby hurting your lower back.
