Product Review: Dental Hygienist
Summary: 5 Stars

As a dental Hygienist I highly recommend this product and have seen some amazing reductions in patient's bleeding gums (bleeding=disease/infection). It is great for people with periodontal disease and gingivitis (over 90% of us have some-even professionals), as well as people who have large hands and people who have braces. I have even sold the product out of several offices because I love it so much. Here are some things to note.

1) It will take a little bit to get used to. I warn my patient's that they may get water in their eyes the first few times. The resevoir is smaller and will need to be refilled.

2) It is very convenient. When you see this in your shower you are more likely to use it daily and make it a habit. You may have to recharge it every week or so when it runs down. Also, before you use it the first time fully charge it overnight.

3) You should keep the unit away from the running water when not in use. I have had two units and never had one corrode. You need to make sure the flap where you charge it is closed fully. Just use common sense...turn the charging portal away from the water when you refill, etc. I refill right in my shower.

4) The first one I had lasted a year and a half. These things do not last forever, but for the price they are so worth it. Most people pay more for coffee a month. Is your health worth that? Also Waterpik invented the machines and are very good about replacing any defective item. Every once in awhile you get a dud battery, I don't care what kind of product it is. Call them and they will replace it.

For all of you who don't know it.....we have a saying in dentistry that you only have to floss the ones you want to keep. Brushing alone will not cut it. If you do not clean under your gums you will have infection (bleeding) and bone loss around your teeth. The infection gets worse and deeper and will travel into your bloodstream. If the infection gets into your bloodstream it effects your whole body.

If you have deeper pockets (probing depths) that measure 4 and above, even if you are flossing you may not be cleaning to the base of the pocket where the really nasty bacteria is hiding out. This will get where your floss will not. It does not replace floss and I tell my patient's to use them together. If you don't know what your readings are ask your Dental Hygienist. They should be checking your pockets every visit and recording them once a year. You should see your hygienist 2-4 times a year.

Periodontal disease has been linked to Heart disease, Stroke, Diabetes, Alzheimer's, Pre-term low birthweight babies, Prostate Cancer....the list goes on. If your body is constantly fighting an infection in your mouth your immune system cannot do it's job if you get a cold, a cut....you name it.

I am getting off my soap box. I love this product. I was skeptical at first but got deperate with a few hopeless patient's and saw amazing results...and started using it myself. Also, it will not remove hard deposits if you haven't been cleaned recently, you have to have a clean mouth to begin with.

It is like anything else....you have to use it daily to see results. I use it (even before I got braces). I have my parent's using one because I believe in the product. My dad has the big countertop model and loves it...though it costs more. I have been using my second unit for over a year now. I buy them for my friends and they love them. I would not spend money on them if they didn't work.

Good luck and good health! Hope this info helped some people.

Product Review: Didn't Even Last A Month
Summary: 1 Stars

I see I'm not alone here, but I wanted to add my experience so potential victims can see another one-star review. Actually I'd like to give this product no stars but the system doesn't allow for that. The thing worked okay for a couple of weeks although I never was able to do my whole mouth without having to refill the tiny reservoir. After that it started to labor, then stop until you shake it or tap it back to life. That went on for a week. Then one day it just died out, pulsing maybe once every 4 or 5 seconds. It sounded like it was out of power so I plugged it in and charged it again but to no avail. I did get it to work once more for about 10 seconds by tapping it firmly against my hand, and that was the last of it. If you do want to buy this thing, buy it locally so you can return it for a refund easilly.

UPDATE 11/12/08: Yeah, I tried it again, still no good. The problem definitely insn't a battery issue. When there's no water in the reservoir it runs just fine, full speed ahead and no signs of slowing after two minutes, but the second you put water in the thing, it goes back to limping along at about a pulse a second. Let the water out and it's back up to full speed ahead. Sounds like a bad motor or pump to me. Hey what's the difference it's still junk. Buyer beware!

Product Review: Died after 3 weeks - poorly designed, poor quality.
Summary: 1 Stars

I liked this product while it lasted, and I could really feel the difference in the health of my gums.

It's bulky and unwieldy, but I got used to it. Didn't hold enough water to do my whole mouth, so had to refill several times - annoying.

But then it just stopped pumping. The battery is still good, it just makes this slow grinding churning sound and no water comes out.

Unfortunately didn't keep my receipt.

I plan on getting the counter model instead, keeping my receipt, and filling out the warranty card.

Product Review: Dies too quickly
Summary: 1 Stars

I am about to throw out the third WP-360 that I have purchased. The first lasted a few months and I loved it. It cleaned between my teeth and took little space on the countertop. But then it died. So I gave in after a few months without and bought a second Waterpik cordless. It died after a much shorter period, a few weeks I believe. I gave up on irrigating between my teeth.

But I really needed a dental irrigator; dental floss does not do the trick for me. I had gone months and months without and I could see how my teeth and gums were suffering. So I gave in, and bought another one. I thought this time would be this third one died much quicker. I found it hard to believe. I don't know who I am more frustrated with....myself for buying another one or WATERPIK for selling an inferior product. I just assumed that they would improve their product. And I believe they will, which is why I write this review.

WATERPIK--please improve your product. Thank you.
