Product Reviews of Waterpik Waterflosser Cordless PLUSProduct Review: 1 Star is One Too Many Summary: 1 Stars
ULTRA BAD! I should have read the reviews BEFORE buying (non-Amazon purchase). The idea is great but it doesn't come close to meeting expectations. Overall, poorly designed and engineered. Don't engineers or sales people EVER use their own products? Mine lasted maybe 3 months, getting worse each month, until the battery AND motor/pump were both shot. ~$50 gone and ended up in the trash (oops, I meant green "save the earth" recycle bin).
1. Tip is impossible to control and spins around freely, spraying water everywhere but where you intended.
2. Plastic housing and controls are slippery when wet. Only 2 water pressure speeds and high is not powerful enough after using for 1-2 weeks.
3. Reservoir is difficult to fill completely because air has to be displaced at the same time and through the same hole used to add water.
4. Reservoir is not large enough, so you have to fill it 2-3 times per use.
5. It's very loud and noisy. Could be banned after-hours in some communities. Takes too long to re-charge.
6. Replacement tips are very brittle, so they break easily, are non-standard, and impossible to find in a store.
7. The water re-fill plug becomes almost impossible to open, and then begins to leak from a bad seal.
8. The 2 happiest moments for me with this product were 1) the day I bought it, and 2) the day I trashed it.
Product Review: A Solution to the "battery" problem. Summary: 3 Stars
I have had two rechargable Waterpiks. Both had the same problem. After about 5 or 10 months the unit gradually loses the ability to charge up. Most users assume that the battery became defective.
I really need this thing so I decided to look into it and found that the battery in each case was fine. What happens is that the connector on the charging cable gradually deteriorates. This might be due to getting wet repeatedly combined with corrosion and deposits. The inside of the female part of the connector gets get eaten away and actually gets larger in diameter. The electrical connection deteriorates and finally becomes unusable. As a result the battery no longer gets recharged.
I found that the "AdaptaPlug" connector system available at Radio Shack has the same pin diameter and pin spacing. By whittling some plastic away I made a better connector from the Radio Shack parts and now the Waterpiks work like new.
The part numbers of the Radio Shack connectors needed are:
Male: 273-1742
Female: 273-1743
Product Review: A Waste Of Money Summary: 1 Stars
Well, all I can say is that when I get it into my head that I want something, there's not much that can sway me in the other direction. So, what I'm going to say to you is this: Listen to the reviews. This product is a complete waste of money. I already own a HydroFloss Irrigator, a high-end machine with a lot of power which cleans under your gums and is excellent for preventing gum disease. I've been using it for years but I wanted something portable, a "no-muss, no-fuss" kind of instrument for when I didn't have time for the HydroFloss. I convinced myself that I wanted this WaterPik product, so I bought it. Not only did it have absolutely NO power (and, believe me, I know that I charged it properly) but it's also messy (water dripping everywhere) and it barely holds enough water to be of any use. It's a complete waste. As someone else mentioned, you can probably swish water around your mouth and it will have more power than this little machine. It was a huge disappointment and I feel totally stupid for wasting my money, especially when so many people on this review board said that it was not a good machine. At any rate, I learned my lesson. If the majority of reviewers say "don't get it," I'm not going to get it! Buy a HydroFloss -- your gums and your dentist will thank you.
Product Review: A little messy Summary: 3 Stars
Just like the other reviews, this product is a little messy. I've tried many different ways of holding it and I think I've found the one that minimizes the spattering of water. On the more positivie side, I can tell a difference in my gums and teeth. I just need to decide if the mess is worth it. I spoke to someone at work and they use theirs in the shower. Hadn't thought about that one, but may give it a try.
Product Review: A must have if you have BRACES!!!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I got braces a couple weeks ago but before I did I bought this. I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT. I have only had 3 meals where I could not use it (ate out) and I really missed it. It will be traveling in my purse next time.
I was told by someone that had their Waterpik die and replaced by Waterpik that you MUST keep it plugged in ALL the time to keep the charge good.
I don't care if this only lasts a year, I will go out and buy again.
I would NEVER go a day without one, it's that good for braces.
