I used the old Water Pik irrigators for many years: they performed very well and the quality was excellent.
The new models are horrible cost reduced version of the originals, built with inferior materials, unreliable and difficult to use.
Save your money and avoid frustration-try someting else (I will!!!)

While most of the reviews that I read on this product were somewhat negative, my experience with the Waterpik has always been positive. While the hose broke on my previous model, it was over ten years old and I think someone mishandled it while cleaning the bathroom. This new unit is much quieter than my previous one and it seems more powerful also. I couldn't be more pleased.Product Review: Mine just died too after 6 months of use.

I got about 6 months of light (single person-once-a-day) use before it quit. Now it just emits a steady hum. This is intended for family use? That is laughable. You should get the extended warrantee if you buy this turkey.Product Review: Motor freezes up

I have just returned my third Waterpik WP-70. In three months time, the motors froze up on all three. Coincidence, or just poor workmanship? I always followed the directions in the manual exactly as written. Another complaint is the noise level.
