Product Reviews of Waterpik Ultra Water FlosserProduct Review: A little loud, use in addition to flossing Summary: 4 Stars
After going to the dentist and having several cavities between my teeth, I decided flossing wasn't doing enough and invested in the waterpik.
First thing, the unit is a little loud when turned on. It's not terrible, but if there are other people sleeping in the surrounding rooms, I will usually refrain from using it because it is loud enough that people in the next room over can hear it. The pump the machine uses makes the whole unit shudder a bit and it is surprisingly jarring at night.
When you turn the unit on, water begins to flow. You can adjust the water pressure, but there isn't an effective way to stop the flow of water except by turning off the machine. There is a blue button on the handle of the machine that can be used to momentarily stop the water flow but the machine shudders a bit more when you keep the pump from expelling water. The button does stop MOST of the flow, but it takes quite a firm grip to keep the water from coming out. But most of the time the waterpik will be in your mouth, so it's not a huge issue.
I don't think that this is a suitable replacement for flossing. After brushing, I tried just using the waterpik before flossing. After a thorough cleaning with the waterpik, I grabbed some floss to see if there was anything left to remove that the waterpik didn't get. I was surprised at how much gunk I was still able to get from between my teeth that the waterpik just couldn't dislodge. But I can definitely tell a difference when I use the waterpik in addition to flossing. I think I get the cleanest mouth if I brush, floss, and then use the waterpik,
The pressure in this machine is great. It's really like a drug; you start off on the softer end of the scale, but as you use it more and more, you need something harder. I've worked up to the highest setting now and it works great. If blasted any harder, I might be able to use it to as a water-jet cutter.
And just as an FYI, double check prices for items on Amazon. This same machine can be found cheaper if you find the right seller: Waterpik Ultra Water Flosser
Product Review: A little messy, but your teeth feel so clean Summary: 4 Stars
I am only giving this product a 4 out of 5 due to the mess it makes. It could be my lack of coordination skills, but we purchased this for my son who recently got braces...well needless to say it makes a mess out of my bathroom and whoever is using it. lol I think it is a product that takes some getting used to.
Product Review: A must have for braces! Summary: 5 Stars
While this Waterpik is not a total alternative for traditional flossing, it sure does help a ton if you have braces! It saves sooo much time and effort. Honestly, if I use this and then use regular floss string afterward, I never have anything come out on the string. I love this Waterpik! My teeth feel so clean after using it.
It is easy to use. You just fill the basin with water, pick your setting with the dial, and turn it on. It is a little messy - water run off - but it is worth it! I use it on the highest setting with no discomfort or pain at all. The different heads are all very useful and store right in the lid of the basin. It flips open and there is a compartmnt to keep them all. The coiled cord stays neatly in place in the holster when not in use.
I use a basin full of water, then refill with half water/half mouthwash and my mouth and teeth feel so clean and so smooth. It feels like I just left the dentist. It is also easy to clean from behind the teeth as well.
This is definitely one of the best investments I have made. I definitely recommend this wether you have braces or not. My kids even like using it. I bought extra heads for it so they each have their own and can just pop it on when they use the Waterpik.
Product Review: A piece of junk Summary: 1 Stars
This new design is horrible. The water resevoir holds less than the old model.
Both the holder of all the individual pick pockets and othere tips, broke, as did the holder of the handle, within a few months after purchase.
The whole design of this waterPik is ugly, too.
WHY did they change the design from the original model, which was also more durable.
This new one is an expensive piece of junk.
Product Review: A skeptic is made into a believer! Long live the Waterpik! Summary: 5 Stars
Before I begin, I have to say that had it not been for of your helpful comments, I wouldn't have purchased the Waterpik.
My teeth, albeit doing a lot better than the past, could benefit from something extra. Multiple flossings per day had irritated my guns to the point of redness. Also, I wasn't very convinced that flossing was removing every little piece of dirt between the teeth.
I need action. I needed relief!
...enter the Waterpik WP-100. It has reduced my gum irritation tremendously, while keeping between my teeth cleaner. I agree with a few of the reviewers that anything less than 6 = waste of time. I usually just leave it at 10.
Pros:
It works! That's all you need to know!
Compact
Inexpensive
Cons:
Reservoir is big, but not big enough. +20-25% more would be better
The tube NEEDS to be longer. This is one of my biggest gripes. The coiled tube is a nice touch, but they need to make the tube like 25-50% longer.
I waited 1 1/2 months for this product on Amazon and at one point was planning to cancel my purchase. I am VERY glad I didn't!
