Product Reviews of Water Distiller, Countertop, White EnamelProduct Review: cost effective clean water Summary: 5 StarsI disagree with a previous review that says that its cheaper to buy distilled water than pay for the energy to run this unit. An average cost of electricity is about $0.10 per kw hour. If the unit burns .590kw running for 5 hours to generate 1 gallon of water, that gallon costs $0.10 * .590 * 5 = $0.29. Thats less than half the cost of buying a gallon of distilled water at Walmart.
Product Review: Distiller Summary: 5 StarsI bought this because of the price and was tired of buying water in the gallon jugs. When you first get it, it stinks of plastic as they ship the water container inside of it. Follow the directions and fill the jug up with the baking soda and water and soak overnite to get the smell out of the jug. Also clean the inside of the distiller real good and fill it with water with baking soda and let it stand overnite also. Use the little charcoal filters that come with it, buy extras when you order the distiller, and you will have quality water and you will never like the taste of regular water again. After my distilled water cools I just pour it into my Brita Counter Top Dispenser, the ideal setup. It cleans up easy and the cleaner does a good job removing the gunk. I bought one of these for my daughter also. It takes about five hours to complete the process but it is just set and forget it as it will shut off when done. I have done three gallons on a Saturday without any inconvience and I have seen ones like this selling for hundreds more..Buy it, you'll like it..Cheers..Keithmj
Product Review: I've been using this unit for almost 15 years Summary: 5 StarsI live out in the country where my well water is technically drinkable, but tastes awful due to high sulfur and iron content. When we moved here in 1992, I bought my first one from Sears for $99.00. After several years it developed a strange problem where the interaction of the water and the plastic inside the lid caused giant plastic growths almost like warts to appear. It didn't affect the unit's performance, but it sure looked weird! I went to Sears to buy another one, and they were having a closeout, so I bought TWO! That was at least 10 years ago. I think I'm on the second one of that sale (third one altogether). In fifteen years, I wonder how many gallons of water I've distilled... I'm guessing almost 5,000. Two tips: I bought a big five-gallon plastic holding tank from the Container Store and just about every night, I turn on the distiller when I go to bed (so the noise doesn't bother me), and pour that gallon in the plastic tank in the morning. It's just part of my routine. Also go to Whole Foods, or someplace like that, and buy a bottle of mineral drops. Add about 10-20 drops of that to the empty bottle before you turn on the distiller. Drinking nothing but distilled water isn't necessarily all that good for you. I see the price has gone up... but not all that much. This is a good, reliable product, as essential to my quality of life as indoor plumbing and my computer.
Product Review: Working well so far Summary: 4 StarsI have had this distiller for about a month, a replacement for the used one given to me upon my arrival on a tiny island with poor water quality. So far, the distiller is working fine. It does leave residue in the bottom, but most of that is easily washed out. I appreciate the fact that all the cords can be detached, making it easier to wash out. With perhaps 10 uses under its belt, the distiller is fine so far.
Product Review: FYI: 590 watts Summary: 4 StarsI've had this for a week now and so far works well after about 6 cycles. I am happy with it to fill my sterilizers and humidifiers. Didn't realize it used 590 Watts.
