I would have thought this product was a slamdunk it works so well for me.Looking at other reviews here, though, I can see that many other users have had problems with the product.
All I can say is, by holding the trimmer vertically, according to the instructions, you can get a great trim, and the unit almost never lets any whiskers fall into the sink.
Yes, the trimmer guard can come off rather easily -- Wahl probably needs to reengineer this piece to solve the problem -- but I've never had it pop off while I've been trimming my beard. As for another of the users' comments that he had to recharge the trimmer every two or three days, I suspect that his unit is suffering from the memory effect so common with nicad batteries.
The solution, of course, is to let the trimmer discharge completely between recharge cycles.
To sum up, I personally give this unit five stars, but clearly, it's not for everyone. If a clean, whisker-free sink appeals to you, you might want to try the Wahl Trim-n-Vac -- but make sure the store will take it back if you're not satisfied.
And for heaven's sake, read the instructions!

This trimmer features a no-mess collection chamber, is easy to open and clean, has an 11-position length guide and precision steel blades that self-sharpen for lasting quality. Wahl?s Trim-n-Vac beard and mustache trimmer has a vacuum intake port at the trimmer head to capture and draw cut facial hair into a collection chamber at the shaver?s base. The vacuum is, at minimum, 85 percent effective (depending on the length of the hair being cut), and the collection chamber is easy to open and clean. This innovative design, along with the Trim-n-Vac?s ability to operate without a cord, make the trimmer great for travelers with hectic schedules who may need a quick shave while in the car or at the airport.
The trimmer has a rotating head that pivots 90 degrees to expose either a wide cutting blade for beards, or a detail blade for trimming edges and the lip line. An 11-position beard regulator easily attaches to the trimmer?s head to provide consistent and safe tapering and trimming of your beard and mustache. The 11 positions range from a height that tackles longer hairs (for example, if you are shaving off your beard) all the way down to a short height for trimming daily stubble. For convenience, the beard regulator remembers the last set length height until you change it. For additional comfort during shaving, the Groomsman has a contoured ergonomic handle and a well-positioned thumb-operated power switch.
The Trim-n-Vac operates either plugged in via its electric charger or runs on its long-lasting nickel-cadmium battery, which is estimated to last three to five years before needing replacement. The trimmer and charger are small enough to stash in the included pouch for travel along with all the accessories?the beard regulator, a beard/mustache comb, cleaning oil, and a cleaning brush.
