Product Review: Careful! Blades are VERY SHARP!

I have read a lot of reviews for this product, and I am not convinced the people posting reviews have all used these clippers. I have been cutting hair for 20 years, and this is the first set of balding clippers I have ever purchased (never really had a need). First and foremost,these clippers are very sharp, and if you are not careful, you will put deep gashes in your skin! If you have bumps or moles on your scalp, these clippers will surely slice right through them. That being the case, of course, these clippers also cut hair very well, as they should. Wahl makes excellent, long lasting clippers. As I said, I have been cutting hair for 20 years and these clippers really aren't for amateurs or do-it-yourself head shaving. If you're using them to cut your hair, or the hair of someone else, take your time, keep the top, flat portion of the blades flush with the person's scalp (to minimize cuts), and be very careful around the ears. Second, for men that wear do-it-youself, clean-shaved heads, these clippers are not a good alternative to shaving your head with razors. Try an electric razor (like Norelco) instead, and then clean up the straggler hairs with a razor. I have been shaving my head for almost 10 years and these Wahl clippers are the best I have ever used or owned. Nothing else cuts closer. A few of the reviews here claim there are lower cutting clippers but I doubt it. The only way to get a closer cut than what these 8110s do is with a razor, PERIOD. I hope Wahl keeps making these clippers because I want a Wahl 8110 cut from here on out. :-)Product Review: Clipper Review

I had previously written a very positive review of these clippers but am now forced to change it. I've had 3 sets of these clippers over the years as they have worn out, etc. My first set was awesome. It lasted years and gave me a superclose shave and never cut me. Then when I needed another set just a few months back, they cut me several times. Thought it might have been a bad set so I sent it back and got a new one. Now the new one does the exact same thing. I'll be shaving with it then it will get caught on my skin for no reason. There's not a blemish there or anything, it just gets caught and will cut you. I'm under the impression that Wahl has changed how they manufacture these clippers than they used to but I'm never using mine again.Product Review: Close, but not bald!

The problem that I find with this clipper is that its billing as the "balding clipper" is misleading.
With all those pictures at the Wahl website illustrating the results obtained with this clipper, with heads looking shaved (as with a blade), I expected a closer cut than what I got. In my head, you can clearly see stubble (unlike in those pictures), and you can feel it just as well.
Someone said that the results are similar to a day's growth from a razor shave. In my case, it's more like a 3rd day's growth from my razor shaves.
I bought this clipper because I was looking for a faster alternative to the blade. So far the only comparable alternative that I've found is an electric shaver, but that's not really faster, it takes almost as long as shaving with a blade.
So after using this clipper I asked myself: "Should I return it?" And I realized: But then, what am going to buy? I still don't know of anything better, probably this is as good as it gets with a clipper, and for the sake of speed, I'll take it. It's good enough. Just don't expect your head to look like the ones on those pictures.
