I have to say, this is my first humidifier, so my experience with this kind of appliance is somewhat limited. But being an engineer and all, I think there's a couple points that need mentioning:
Pros:
* I like the two individual tanks. This way you can refill one while the unit is still working.
* I like the design of the tank. You don't have to hold it, you can set it down up side down while filling it. Ergonomic handle is a nice feature too (after all, you are holding ~4 pounds).
* Coffee-maker-like bubbling and low hum are not too offensive.
Cons:
* The blue "on" light is very bright. We have this unit in the bedroom and I have to put it behind the bedstand facing the wall so that it doesn't light up the whole room in blue at night.
* The turn knob to set the "output" of the unit is really a turn know to set a "desired humidity"... the output is always the same (either is makes steam or it does not). So basically if you want it to put out steam you have to turn past the point where it clicks.
* We have a pretty high ceiling in our ~400 sqft bedroom and forced air heating (which is why you would want a humidifier in the first place) with a pretty big return and I have a feeling that the little output of this unit doesn't really do much to improve the humidity in the room, a little definitely but not much.
* When the unit is dialed down below the "click", no water is steamed up but the humming is still there... I don't really know why. If there's no steam coming out of it, it shouldn't be producing noise either.
Having read a lot of other reviews before I made this purchase, I think there's no perfect device out there... and this might be the best compromise you can get.
