Product Reviews of Vicks Nursery 1 Gallon Vaporizer with Night-LightProduct Review: Basic Vaporizer at a good price Summary: 4 Stars
Works fine though with small capacity; runs for 8-9 hours. Compact for easy storage and a good value (I paid $11.96) for a basic vaporizer. When you first insert the heating element it tends to float up but then settles into place as the water seeps in. (It lacks a lock or screw tight mechanism.) We have used this overnight in our bedroom when fighting a cold. You may need to add baking soda to make it work faster depending on the level of minerals in your water.
Product Review: Best option for low end warm humidifier. Summary: 4 Stars
Update 2/16/11
My review was based on the 1.5 Gallon unit i had been using for few yrs. But I received this unit today and tested it out.
Pro: As mentioned, it's still very quiet. 1/2 the level or less then the Vicks $30 unit. The 1 gallon unit is smaller, so it's easier to carry and fill then the 1.5 gallon unit for those who are older and have difficulty lifting heavy things. It's smaller, so it fits under smaller sinks. Pumps out as much, if not more steam then the $30 unit.
Con: Electricity consumption is about 150 Watts. I assume that my old unit was corroded, so it didn't use as much electricity. This unit being new starts at 30 watts and climbs to about 150 watts maximum. Alot a watts, but since it pumps out warm mist, it also warms the room, thereby allowing me to lower the central heat by 1 degrees.
The sheer difference in the noise level is enough of a reason to buy this over the Vicks $30 unit. I absolutely could not sleep with the $30 unit and had to return it. This one i've slepted with it in my room for many years. My previous 1.5 gallon model uses the same head unit as this. Now if I just do regular maintenance, I should be able to make this unit last few years.
Update 2/12/11
I've recenlty purchased the $30 Vicks Warm Humidifer and put it to the test and have come to the conclusion that I was too harsh on the review of this product. Several things about this unit changed my mind toward positive on this product. I went from 1 star to 4 stars.
Noise: This unit is half the noise level of the $30 Vicks. I can sleep with it on. I could not sleep with the $30 unit.
Steam Quantity: This unit produces about the same amount of steam as the Vicks $30 unit on low setting. In order to increase steam output to high, you have to add salt.
Electricity Usage: This unit uses only about 60 Watts. The Vicks $30 unit uses about 130 Watts on low setting and 260 Watts on high setting. The electricity savings on this unit gives it enough reason to buy this over the $30 unit. My Duracraft, which is no longer functional after many years of usage, used only 30 Watts of energy and produced more steam then the $30 Vicks on high setting. You can see how extremely wastefull, the Vicks $30 unit is when it comes to energy consumption. 30 Watts vs 260 Watts. How ridiculous is that ?! I wish I could still buy the old Duracraft. It was also the quietiest of them all.
Lime removal: $30 Vicks is easy to take apart and clean. I have not actually taken this unit apart to clean when I owned one. I just used it till it was non functional after 2 yrs of use. But if it can be cleaned, I'm sure it will last alot longer.
Product Review: Black soot stinky humidifier Summary: 1 Stars
Yes it's cheap. Yes it does mist up the room very well. However, after 2-3 hours, the water is filled with soot and the mist starts to smell like soot. It's hard to explain. I think it's a piece of junk and will have to buy yet another humidifier. I also think it's not safe because the top does not latch on. Really bad product.
Product Review: Good item, good price Summary: 5 Stars
We've tried many vaporizers, but this one works wonderfully in many ways.
Water tends not to get as many particles after a full days use as smaller units for some reason
Night light nice but not too bright.
Unit fits perfectly in bathroom sink to be refilled.
Mine operates for about 15 or 16 hours before it needs to be refilled!
Product Review: Great Item Summary: 5 Stars
I love this Vaporizer. I am surprised with all the bad reviews.
I am on my 3rd one (one got lost when we moved, and the bunny chewed the cord on the 2nd one). I add 1/8 teaspoon of salt and we get 14-16 hours of steam. I dont get any noise from it asside from the occasional bubbling which is tons quieter then our fishtank. I had black stuff in the water with the 1st unit but we had public water. We are on well water and have not had any problems at all. Going on over 2 yrs with this one and still works just fine. It goes from room to room as needed for coughs and colds. When we really get sick, I add Kaz vapors to the well and it makes a huge differnce. If this one goes, I will definetly purchase another one.
