Product Review: Fast, Accurate, Easy

I don't have much to add over the other reviews here - but this thermometer is very fast, seems to be much more accurate (readings are consistent over multiple attempts), and our son doesn't even realize what we're doing. We were initially against the 'rectal' route, but that was mostly based on old prejudices against really long, really slow older models (that we grew up with).
This thermometer has a very short probe (no worries about going too far), and he has yet to even notice what we're doing. And it reads in 10 seconds or less, which is great because you're trying to get a temperature when he's screaming and crying. The armpit model we used before took up to 60 seconds, which is an eternity when he's thrashing and you're trying to hold the probe under his (thrashing) arm.
All in all, works fantastic, it's pretty cheap, and we don't have to dread getting a temp!
Product Review: Finally someone got it right...

It is a fight to take my 16 month old's temperate via rectal reading. Since this method is considered the most accurate I continued the fight. Enter Vick's...this is the best thing ever. It takes the temperature in 10 seconds accurately (I tested it against my tried and true old digital, rectal thermometer), and just as my son was about to protest, it was done. I also love that the bulb prevents overinsertion, which was a concern of mine as my son struggled against having his temp taken.
I plan on giving this as a gift at every future baby shower.
Product Review: Gave false readings- maybe we got a dud?

We bought this thermometer for the good reviews. Then one night, we had called our pediatrician's office since our baby's temp was registering lower than 96 degrees with this. We checked rectally 3 times and under his arm with this to be sure we were getting an accurate reading- all were below 96 degrees, prompting our Dr to advise us to take the baby to the emergency room immediately. Once there, they checked his temp and it was completely normal at 97.5 degrees. They said our thermometer was probably a dud and to try a new one. Had this worked properly, we could've avoided the incredible stress and frustration we experienced with false readings. Maybe we just got a dud, so if you buy this then please be sure you have another thermometer as back-up to double-check any worrisome readings.Product Review: Good enough that I would write a review of a rectal thermometer

I cannot believe I am reviewing a rectal thermometer, but it is that good. Having many kids, I have struggled with best ways to take temperature. For the older kids, I have settled on the ear thermometer as "good enough", but it really doesn't give accurate results on a baby. Rectal is the way to go, but babies (especially newborns) are so delicate that it can be hard to tell when the thermometer is far enough inside without hurting the baby.
This thermometer is a "no brainer". It is shaped to be easy to put inside the rectum while the baby is on his/her back. The button is easy to push, the display is clear, and the probe tip cannot go too far inside. Temperature is taken quickly as well.
For the price, I would recommend this to all new parents. Just be sure to keep it clean and buy some water-based lubricant for it.
Product Review: Good product, but be careful cleaning it

It's well-designed and gives a quick reading. However, the battery door is not gasketed, so when washing the thermometer, it's easy for water to get into the unit; then parts inside corrode and it quits working. Still the best out of several that we've tried, I'm buying another one.
