Product Reviews of Vicks 1.0 Gallon Cool Mist HumidifierProduct Review: Cute Design, Good Price, but LOUD Noise Summary: 2 Stars
I just bought this one yesterday at a local Target store for $29.99. I love its design and the price. Tried one night however not impressed at all. When I turned it on to high, I couldn't believe what I heard - it was so loud, sounded like pot boiling or hair dryer running. After it ran overnight for about 8 hours on low (it was quiet), only less than 1/4 of the water in the tank was gone. I guess not much mist generated. I don't know what to do yet with this one. Will certainly buy a different one.
Product Review: DONT MOVE IT Summary: 4 Stars
My wife bought this item, filled it to the top, then asked me to carry it upstairs. Let me tell you, do not do this. The way it works is that the top clear water container drains via a dip tube into a tray, which sits at the bottom. Move the item, and thus the tray, and the water will slosh out, which will allow more water to flow from the reservoir. I didn't know this was the problem until I kept trying to position it to keep from spilling, which was funny as I kept making the problem worse. Once I discovered how the item works, its easy to see that it just cannot be carried. It prob can be moved without a problem, say a foot here or there on the floor, but I wouldnt carry it. If you make wedding cakes and deliver them yourself, then you should have no problems, as you are used to the balancing act.
Product Review: Do not purchase this unit Summary: 1 Stars
This unit has serious design flaws. The maintenance is not easy as mentioned in other reviews. It is almost impossible for a person living in an apartment in New York City to operate this unit as indicated in the instructions. It needs to sit on a non-metallic, level surface that won't be damaged by water with nothing around it and be plugged directly into a wall out-let not using an extension cord or other outlet extension commonly used in pre-war apartments.
It needs to be cleaned extensively daily and weekly using vinegar and bleach. But this is nothing compared to it's major problem--OVER FLOWING THE WATER TRAY AND LEAKING INTO WHERE THE FAN IS LOCATED AND POWER CORD ATTACHES. Water flows down people!
My unit differs from the one depicted in the owner's manual that came with it. The tank cap / water value that releases the water into the water tray to be absorbed by the filter and distributed into the air by unit is molded as a part of the tank and is not removable. For some reason I've not figured out yet, the water valve will open and drain all the water in the tank, overflow the water tray and fill the electrical parts of the unit. Not a good design. I could understand if it did this when I first place the tank on the unit, but it doesn't. It does it randomly. I've tried cleaning it, replacing the filter and it will still do it. I've had it just over a month.
I feel this is not a defective unit, that is a bad design and the unit is a hazard and should be recalled.
The owner's manual says that if this should happened to check the tank for leaks and then replace it. But if it's the built-in water value that releases the water as it's supposed to do, an obvious design flaw, why would I waste more money on another one?
DO NOT BUY THIS UNIT. Look for one where the electrics are not in the flow path of the water and the water tray is not open and very shallow. The other issue is the company that makes this unit, KAZ, makes most popular brand humidifiers as well; Honeywell, Braun, it's a list of about 20.
I have noticed that the Honeywell machines electrics are on the side and not underneath the water tank. I'm going to take a closer look at that model.
Product Review: Does it do anything? Summary: 1 Stars
I bought this for my office. I have a temperature and humidity display in my office. Our heat is PAINFULLY dry. My readout was typically around 24%. I bought this humidifier thinking it could help out. It's loud when it's on high and the humidity just plain does not increase. ??? I notice no difference in the air myself and nor does the sensor! It's going back to Target, simple as that.
Product Review: Does not work as expected Summary: 1 Stars
I just want to second a previous review about this humidifier. The settings are not ideal. The high setting creates the right amount of humidity but is too loud. I can fall asleep to the high settings, but my eardrums literally hurt the next day from the constant white noise. And, the low setting doesn't create enough humidity.
I am trying to use the high setting an hour before heading to bed, and then changing it to low, to see if that meets our needs.
UPDATE: It does not meet our needs. I am going to look into a warm mist humidifier now.
