Product Reviews of Vicks 1.0 Gallon Cool Mist HumidifierProduct Review: After many, this one does the job. Summary: 5 Stars
Not the best for large rooms, but in my newborns 15x15 room, it certainly does the trick. On high it lasts for about a day, and isn't overly loud. In fact, it is quiter then others on low.
On low, it is nearly silent unless you are next to it, and lasts about 2.5 days.
I have had quite a few, and this one really is nice. It kept the room at about 30 percent humidity during days averaging 0-10 degrees F.
Product Review: Bad Smell Bad Design Summary: 1 Stars
My husband purchased this unit right after our baby was born. I used it right away, at first I really liked the unit. It was quiet, and worked really well. Then after about 3 weeks I noticed an odor. When I looked at the filter it was already discolored, looked like hard water stains and Mold! definitely NOT what i wanted around my infant. DO NOT buy!!
Product Review: Bad design, ineffective, and prone to mold! Summary: 1 Stars
There is nothing like a warm air humidifier. This cold air humidifier is a bad buy in many regards. Mainly, the unit does not emit much moisture into the air, even with the switch on high. I ran this all night in the high position, and the water level barely moved (meaning not much moisture was emitted into the air). Also, it is exceedingly loud in the high position, and even more ineffective in the low position. The wick filter is a hassle to install (they should have a disposable cartridge type of filter... HELLO designers!), and mine picked up mold after just a few days use. I am going to put this out with the trash tomorrow, and pick up a warm air humidifier after doing some research here on Amazon.
Product Review: Best of all I have ever used! Summary: 5 Stars
Humdifiers use fans to push moisture into the air, so expect some noise - fans are never completely quiet.
But, on the low setting the fan is the quietist of any I have owned, and on the high setting the fan is quite audible. Even so it is quieter than any I have owned before.
This humidifier is easy to operate, fill and clean. They thought of everything in the product design, including making the tank sit flat when you turn it over to fill it up.
I have found that for most operation the low setting works well and the water lasts at least 18 hours. Over a gallon of water a day into my room seems more than adequate for most needs.
In fact I enjoy this machine so much I run it every night in order to keep the room nicely humidified, especially since cleaning and filling is such a snap.
Product Review: Better than Expected Summary: 5 Stars
This Vicks Humidifier is exactly what I needed.
When the air in the house gets stale I have problems breathing, my nasal passages tend to stuff up and sometimes I get a bloody nose. I live in a semi-arid climate, so I expected to be adding humidity. But several knowledgeable sources advised me that our gas furnace lowers the humidity while heating the house. We added a humidifier to our furnace and although it helps, it is not enough. I decided I needed a small humidifier for two rooms: my bedroom, and the room where I spend most of my day.
So I have searched for a good humidifier to meet this need. Some humidifiers that I have tried leak, others develop murky water and mist. Some begin to smell, others leave a white dust over the furniture. Some are hard to carry and refill, others are very noisy. Finally, some humidifiers require a lot of maintenance.
The Vicks 1.0 Gallon Cool Mist Humidifier overcomes all the problems I have with other humidifiers. The Vicks is easy to carry - it has a great carry handle. It is easy to fill with water. The maintenance is very easy - just carefully rinse the water chamber and wash out the large piece of foam that puts water in to the breeze created by the fan. Further it has two settings: high brings the humidity up quickly; low keeps the air moist. On low the machine is almost silent.
I highly recommend this humidifier.
