Product Review: So disappointed!

I also live the the Seattle Area, and winters are dark and rainy for months on end. Your body loses it's day/night clock. This lamp worked great, for about eight months, then the alarm broke. Now, all I get is a horrible screech in the morning. So, that comes to 20 dollers per month to use it for it's lifetime...:(. Good product. Very bright. The bulb is a DC halogen capsule just like a headlight on a car and the brightness is comperable to having a car's highbeam inside a lampshade. The incandesent 'bulb' is tinted to adjust the color slightly, but otherwise purely aestetic.
Good features, particularly the timer that gently increases the brightness for some time in the morning.
Build quality could be better. I'd much prefer the dimmer knob to be an actual knob. Instead you turn it 45deg left/right and it presses a button to dim/brighten. Also it requires more force than it should to turn on/off and I've knocked the lamp over a few times because you need to support it from behind to activate the switch.
Everything else (radio, alarm timer, clock, lamp, et.al.) works exactly as you would expect it to.
Overall I'm very pleased with the lamp and the effect. I can't stand waking up before dawn and the lamp removes the startling irritating response that my alarm clock creates. Instead of being angry and resistant and snoozing I am already alert and aware when the alarm goes off and just roll right out of bed.
Product Review: This Dawn Simulator is no dim bulb!

I researched long and hard and finally chose this one. The FS Natural Alarm Clock gives you many options. It does what the "info blurb" says it will do. It is great to go to sleep to a babbling brook and chirping crickets and awake to a lighted room and the sound of roosters and farm noises. If you don't like sounds, or the radio, mixed in, you can use the dawn simulator only. The options are many.
The Dawn Sim does have a couple of flaws. In the winter it can build up a static charge and then things do not work properly. Just unplug it, take out the batteries (for backup), and let it sit for an hour or two. Put everything back together and voilà! It works again.
The only other flaw is that you go through bulbs fairly fast. They are a little pricey and you can get them from only one place. So buy a couple of extra bulbs to keep ahead of the game.

After reading a couple of negative reviews, I was hesitant to purchase this lamp/alarm clock. The positive reviews and the absolute need to find a method to get passed the SAD I am experiencing this winter convinced me to give it a try. I do not regret that decision at all.
I carefully read the well written and easy to follow instructions and had my lamp/alarm clock set up in no time. Waking up with this thing is a wonderful experience. You feel refreshed and ready to go!!! (I also recommend keeping a fresh bottle of water next to your bed and take just a few sips upon waking. Finish the bottle as you get dressed in the morning. Re-hydrating after sleep assists in getting the blood flowing well and gives you energy.)
What may be just as good as the LIGHT feature is the SOUND feature. The lamp gives you several natural sound options that can be used for waking up and going to sleep. Even better - you can have different sounds for waking and sleep. I found some of the sounds are better for sleeping than for waking, for instance, I find that it is better for me to sleep to the sounds of the Rain or Forrest and to wake up to the sounds of the Birds or Town (more of an old fashion town with the distance chiming of the town clock and horse-drawn carriages going by).
The NEXT step for this lamp is aromatherapy. Wouldn't it be nice to fall asleep with a lovely scent of lavender and then wake up with the scent of spiced orange blossoms - or fresh brewed coffee???
There is one important bit of information that I want to point out from the instructions:
***This product is SENSITIVE to power surges. USE a surge protector to plug this lamp through.***
I would not be surprised if users with negative experiences had a surge problem that they were unaware of occurring. Also make sure to install the back-up batteries so that your alarm will go off in the event of a surge or loss of power. The batteries are 4 AAs and are NOT included. I was particularly happy to see that it did not require one of those silly 9V batteries that most alarm clocks require.
The only down side to this product is that the replacement bulbs range from $10 to $20 - a bit on the costly side. The materials say the bulbs are good for 2000 hours. That is still to be seen. I will try to remember to revisit this review if I experience early burn-out.

Product Review: This lamp is an ugly piece of junk - and probably will arrive broken

I bought one of these and thought it was a neat idea. When it arrived and I plugged it in, it started to scream!! I called Verilux and they said that a lot of them came from the factory that way -- they didn't stop selling them, they just shipped replacements when the bad ones turned up. Don't take a chance with this garbage.
