I have had a nice natural spectrum desk light in my study area for about 6 years, but it is extremely bright and with new living conditions, I cannot use it very often anymore. This simple battery-powered light, while somewhat dim, is a real blessing. I can continue reading at night in peace, without eye strain associated with traditional types of artificial light.
The best thing about this light is, it can draw its power straight from any powered USB port. And what is more, if you have rechargeable batteries, the device can even charge them (though this feature is somewhat crude, it never fully charges the batteries). I actually have two of these now, for reading hardcover technical books, I clamp one to the back cover, and another to the front cover. It works great, and does not disturb anyone.
The light is especially handy for College students, as if you have your laptop with you, even if it's not turned on, you can plug this light into one of your laptops USB ports and the light will use a very minuscule amount of your laptop's battery.
The only reason I would not give this a 5 is that the USB cable that comes with it is constructed very cheaply. I have a suspicion that the cable will be the first thing to fail, but I really cannot guess how long it will last.
