A lot of reviews will patronizingly call this a "good starter brush", or "good for the price". It is that, but I've found it to be a good brush, period. I almost always face lather rather than bowl lather. The Tweezerman felt a little scratchy at first, and lost some hairs. After a breaking in period, however, it feels great on my face, and the hair loss has stopped. Lathers great with both soaps and creams. This is still my go to brush, although I do use some others in rotation.
Yes you may get a better brush for more money, but be sure you have a clear idea of how, exactly, you expect it to be better. If you just want to get the job done, you don't need to spend more than this.

If you have never tried classic wet shaving before you might think about skimping on shaving gear the first time around. I did too but recently, I upgraded all of my equipment and elected to give this brush a try. I can say it's the finest brush I've used and though I've not tried those really high-end badger brushes, this one works well. It has badger bristles to hold more water and combined with a good shave soap (not the cheap stuff you buy at discount stores), will give your face a good prep before you shave. My teen-age son recently started using this too so I guess I'll have to buy another one soon so he can have his own. It's a fantastic brush for the money. It makes your face feel great and holds the soap lather well for a second lather if you want a really close shave. My suggestion is to not skimp on the other stuff. Buy a good stand to hold the brush, a durable double-edged safety razor, and some quality soap. I bought the Col. Conk kit with a metal stand (holds this brush perfectly), a Parker 22R Safety Razor, and Col. Conk Super Size Shave Mug with Almond Soap. I must agree with the reviews comparing this brush favorably to boars hair brushes. I previously had a boars hair brush I'd picked up at the drug store for $5. It was helpful but broke within three weeks. I ordered the tweezerman brush from Amazon, and the shaving experience has been perfected! I have searched long and hard for the perfect shave, and this brush has helped me find it.
