Product Reviews of Travelon 1st Class SleeperProduct Review: Don't bother, it doesn't work Summary: 1 Stars
Bought it for a 16 hour flight. Used it for 2 hours and decided the seat is actually more comfortable. As with all airbags, it's all about air distribution. Your back has more surface area and weighs more, therefore it will cause all the air to redistribute and over-inflate the neck and head area of the airbag. This is highly uncomfortable, and your neck muscle will try to compensate by exerting force backwards to try to straighten itself out. After 2 hours of this, your neck will spasm, and hurt. The bag is made out of a cheap high density rubber plastic; perfect insulation material. Your back and head will be hot and sweaty after mere minutes of usage. The deflation process was painful. It takes forever to deflate (small plastic valve), and during the process, every passenger who is within earshot will wake up to a fairly loud whistling sound (think boiling kettle).
Who the heck designed this POS anyway?
Product Review: Don't get this product Summary: 1 Stars
The Good News: I have never been able to sleep on planes, so I was excited to learn of this product. I bought two; one was for myself and another was a gift for a traveling companion. I was excited to get it, and I really, really wanted this product to be a super-success...or, at least something better than a crappy coach seat on a long, overnight international flight.
The Bad News: Perhaps I did not inflate/use the product correctly, but I don't "get" this product. Yes, I reviewed the video beforehand and read the directions twice, but when I sat in it, I just didn't feel any big benefit. I'm said to say I will be returning the product.
Product Review: Don't overinflate and this'll be comfy! Summary: 4 Stars
This is a nice product that is easy to carry on and the filling isn't too strenuous or weird for other passengers. It also deflates easily. The key is not to overinflate, or you'll feel uncomfortable. With just a tiny bit of practice you'll be very happy with this!
Product Review: Fantastic Summary: 5 Stars
I thought it looked naff when it arrived but it is surprisingly good. Definitely more comfortable than the seat alone. I would recommend this to everyone who travels long haul in coach class.
Product Review: Fly in comfort - alleviate back pain/stress Summary: 4 Stars
I received this as a gift for Christmas and used it on the transatlantic flight back. The instructions were lost with the wrapping paper; having just looked them up online I think I would have had better results if I'd had them to reference.
I felt a bit self-conscious when I was inflating the sleeper and getting it set up- its quite large and economy seats are not very roomy, so it can be a bit awkward. (I've read other reviews that recommend having a window seat if you're using it, otherwise you definitely do have to get up and out of your seat any time the person next to you wants out)
The first class sleeper was a dream on my back. I used it in conjunction with a G-Seat gel cushion seat (foldable, avail from Magellan's) and the combination was fantastic- there was no pressure or stress put on my back during the 8 hour flight.
I've read other reviews (on Magellan's) that complain of the lack of cushion on the tailbone, so coupling the product with a seat cushion is probably best for maximum comfort.
The only discomfort I had was that my neck kept getting stiff- but I think this was due to the sleeper being improperly inflated and the seat's headrest not adjusted correctly.
Negatives:
-The sleeper is fairly bulky, even when folded down. Even so I had no problem fitting it in my carry-on (large purse) with everything else I required. The carrier bag is very convenient.
-I'm 5'9" and had no problems, however, due to the way the sleeper is designed to work you are supposed to sit farther forward on the seat. If you have very long legs this would put your knees into the seat in front of you.
I'm rating it a 4 since I didn't get fantastic sleep straight away (did manage to sleep, and quite heavily) and because of the stiff neck. As I said though, this is probably more due to error on my part. I will definitely be taking this with me on my next long flight!
