Product Review: Reliable, Easy to Clean and Works as Intended
Summary: 5 Stars

Quick Rundown:

Pros:
1. Sleek design & physical size - the brown model is attractive and pulls comments all the time. Physically, the dimensions of the product make it easy to fit into bags and cup holders. This is an easy product to use one-handed due to the flip-lip and natural 'grip' engineered into the side.

2. Thermal integrity - keeps liquids hot for HOURS. Many other products, especially thermal mugs do a very poor job keeping liquids hot. This product is the best thermal carafe I have ever used. It puts the insulated mugs found in most big-box stores to shame. They keep liquids tepid. This model keeps them volcanic for a few hours and then shifts to warm after a very extended period.

3. Easy to clean - product is very easy to clean. The flip-top and internal chamber take approx 2 minutes to clean and dry.

4. Price - kind of a trick 'pro'. The entry cost is high in comparison to other products (but the performance is very uncommon!). Overall, this product will save you money by keeping home-brewed coffee or tea hot for hours. I personally used to toss my home coffee as it cooled to a gross level too early in the day. This product has allowed me to steer clear of coffee shops for about two months - equalling a cost savings of nearly $15/week.

5. Quality - built to last. This has no superflous black rubber grips or faux stainless steel components that are made to look 'masculine' or scream 'thermos!'. It is elegantly designed and constructed very well.

Cons -
None to report. This purchase has come with zero regrets and has no 'wish-list' of items that I 'wish it had' to make it perfect.

Other Comments -
This product is an interesting one because it excels in its intended use.

I migrated from an insulated mug to this expresso-toned beauty and will never go back.

There are many thermal carafes and mugs on the market that have a fatal flaw of some type (ineffective heating, leaks, hard to clean). This is not one of those products. In using this product daily for approximately two months it has performed very well.

My use of this is for keeping Coffee hot. And in this role, the product excels. The design is very simple and the product is very easy to clean. Having access to this product has saved me a lot in daily coffee expenditures.

The price may seem high, and availability can be scarce, but this has paid for itself many times over at this point.

It is increasingly rare to find a product that does what it says it will with no compromises in function and design.

Thanks to Thermos/Nissan for producing a quality product that delivers in every way.

Product Review: Explosion proof!

I'm not a coffee drinker, but I do make slippery elm "tea" when I'm afraid my heartburn is going to act up and this thermos is the perfect mixing tool.

Slippery elm has a well deserved reputation for being lumpy when mixed with water. I've tried everything, first some cold water, then add hot, using a whisk, a blender, you name it. The only thing that works for me is the shake method. Hot water, a splash of vanilla, a shake of cinnamon and a tablespoon of Slippery Elm Bark Powder Organic - Ulmus rubra, 1 lb., (Starwest Botanicals). I screw on the lid, make sure the clasp is closed and shake the crap out of it! I can keep it piping hot all day in this thermos, or pour it into a coffee mug for after dinner sipping.

That's when this model distinguishes itself, when I don't use it as a thermos but as a mixing tool. As you might imagine all that shaking of hot water builds up quite a bit of pressure. I can unscrew the lid or pop the clasp and let the pressure escape before pouring out my gelatinous concoction. Using a regular screw top thermos results in a slippery elm goo explosion - if I could even get the lid off (hot liquid makes the lid of my regular travel thermos almost impossible to remove). But not this little baby. Pop that clasp - {puff} - extra air gone. No explosion!

And on those occasions when I use it as a travel mug for my regular tea it's perfect for driving as others have said. One hand operation, it doesn't leak and I've had piping hot tea at 3 in the afternoon that I put in the thermos at 8 that morning. What more can you ask for??

If you suffer from heartburn, acid reflux, or IBS, slippery elm "tea" is a wonderful natural, healing remedy and this thermos is the perfect tool for making it!

I've been using Nissan Thermos bottles for over 10 years. I've given them as gifts to all my friends. Rarely do I find a product I am totally thrilled with. I carry this thermos with me 24/7. It keeps ice for hours sitting in the Florida sun and coffee warm in Michigan winters.
The only way I've found to damage it is by twisting the cap with the flip top open. Then it still works as well as most other brands.

Product Review: The Best

The best I ever had...I use it for hot coffee and lay it on it's side on my motorcycle and it holds the coffee as hot as when it's put in after an hour drive with out a single drop slipping out.

Product Review: the lid is often leaky
Summary: 3 Stars

IMHOP, it is almost the luck of the draw if a mass-produced item like this beverage bottle is useful for you. This bottle has some very good points and in my case a flaw which would invalidate it for some people. First of all this is a thermos flask and so it will keep your beverages either hot or cold all day. I've never used it for a hot drink, but it keeps ice-water nice and cold for hours even if kept in your car's cup-holder for hours or in the glare of the sun. Because it is a thermos flask, there is no condensation to worry about. If you accidentally leave it on a book or magazine overnight there will be no unpleasant surprises in the morning. Secondly, it does not have a straw, one tilts the bottle and the contents pour from a generous opening in the lid and down your throat or into a cup. (The lid has a sort of built-in plastic lip that makes pouring easy and an air-hole so the contents pour easily.)It is very gratifying to drink large quantities of water that has just passed over ice on a hot summer's day, especially if one's other bottle is the one pint Thermos/Nissan bottle with a pop-up straw that I find to be a little too narrow for easy drinking.
The drawback to this bottle is also its strength, that pouring-style top. The bottles columnar shape means that it falls over very easily, and if the top is open the contents come pouring out. The lid apparatus is opened by means of a spring mechanism released by a button on the front of the lid. On my copy if the bottle falls over and the button is tapped the lid flies open and water gushes out. I am handicapped, and so I don't commute to work, but if one did and put this bottle in your briefcase and the button got somehow pushed or tapped hard enough and hot milky sugared coffee got all over your wallet, your Blackberry, your work papers, etc...Well it's not something that I want to think about.
Also the lid on my copy leaks if it is not screwed on just right, or if it is not screwed on very tightly. If I was going to take this bottle to work with me I would want to upend it before I left to see if it was screwed on just right, and this ritual could get old very fast.
In summation I would say that this bottle does a great job of keeping its contents hot or cold for hours, but is not that leak-proof.
