Comes with batteries too which is not a very common thing these days for electronic devices.

It is for liquids and non-medical. I bought it not realizing it was not for medical use. But I kept it. I check the bath water with it each night for my 2 yr old neice who use to say "too hot" now I tell her how hot the water is. It is great!
