Product Reviews of Therapeutica Sleeping Pillows - Size Average - MediumProduct Review: Ahhhh Summary: 5 Stars
Since my cervical fusion, I've struggled to sleep comfortably. This pillow is an answer to my prayers. I wish I'd bought this pillow first--I wasted hundreds of dollars trying all the others.
Product Review: Awesome Pillow! Summary: 5 Stars
Takes a few nights to get use to but one you do you'll never go back. it makes you sleep on your back which improves your overall sleep quality.
Product Review: Best dual-position pillow, but still needs improvement Summary: 3 Stars
Very few pillows are designed to properly support both back and side-sleeping positions. The Therapeutica pillow is one. As such, this is a world-leading pillow.
Although it has an odd shape, it correctly positions the head and neck, both when sleeping on the side and back. The centre tongue, which supports the neck towards the area between the shoulder blades, works very well. My chiropractor also confirmed that the posture in both positions is correct.
Since using this pillow (for over 9 months now), the tension problems of my upper neck ("C1" vertebrae) have declined greatly. However, tightness in the lower neck, in the area of the collarbone, has increased. This is due to a design fault in the pillow: the back-sleeping section holds the head and upper neck in good alignment with each other, but if your body is not properly aligned with the centre-line of the pillow, then the misalignment will stress the lower neck where it leaves the pillow. I found this happened all too often with the Therapeutica Pillow.
The narrowness of the head space for back sleeping, and the upward-curving ridge collar are the two features that contribute to this problem. The neck collar should be the same level all the way across. So I took a sharp knife to my pillow and flattened the ridge. I then sliced some height off it, with the result that I stopped snoring at night. Even so, I found the back sleeping position too uncomfortable for a good night's sleep because it was still far too hard. In the end, I sliced the middle section out of the pillow altogether and replaced it with a section from a memory-foam pillow.
For side sleeping, the Therapeutica pillow is a standout winner, being firm enough and correctly shaped for good spinal posture. Most pillow packaging now has a drawing of a person with a straight line dotted along their spine; the Therapeutica is one of the few that actually delivers this. (I recommend investing in a good fairly firm mattress as well.)
Overall, this is one of the few true side-and-back-sleeper pillows on the market, and probably the best, but it still needs improvement for back sleeping.
Product Review: Best pillow I have ever 5 Stars
I am a Chiropractor, and have had several neck injuries myself. I used the Linear Gravity Pillow for 20 years, and it needed to be replaced every 2 years or so. I was relatively happy with that pillow, but was open to trying a different pillow.
A patient asked me to get one of these pillows for her and I decided to buy two so that I could try it. From the first night it felt like it was made for me and it took no getting used to. This pillow feels like it supports my neck completely. It did take a little getting used to having the side sleeping portions so close to my ears when I was on my back, but it took less than a week for me to no longer notice that they were there. The side sleeping portions of this pillow are much better than any other pillow I have ever tried.
This is a foam pillow -- not a memory foam pillow. For proper support of the head during side-sleeping a memory foam pillow is just not going to do the job because your head will sink further into it as the pillow warms up. It is important for the head to be perpendicular to your shoulders when you are on your side. You do not want to have your head tilted either up or down.
This pillow would probably not be comfortable for someone with a reversed cervical curve, or an immobile neck. For most everyone else it is definitely a good place to start in your search for the "perfect" pillow.
This comes in several sizes from child, small, medium, large and extra large. The size depends upon the distance between the side of your head and your shoulder. For most average sized women the medium should be perfect.
I think that this is the absolute best pillow out there, and I have tried many over the years.
Product Review: Best pillow for my neck condition Summary: 5 Stars
After 20 years and numerous pillows to relieve an arthritic condition in my neck area, the Therapeutica pillow is by far the most effective. It fully supports my neck and shapes my upper spine. It's not a gimmick memory foam which did not provide support in my case. I really like the side panels that provide healthy neck support for side sleeping. I was able to end my daily pain medication. I recommend this pillow to anyone with chronic neck pain or other cconditions that cannot be corrected otherwise.
