Product Review: My sciatica was killing me until . . . Summary: 5 Starsa friend loaned me her 1st class sleeper for a cross-country plane trip in July. As suggested, I folded it in half for lumbar support and with 3-4 puffs of air I sat in cattle class in comfort and was able to walk off the plane without pain shooting down my leg to my foot. I used the sleeper unfolded on 2 transatlantic flights in September and still was virtually pain free when getting off the plane. The lumbar support is amazing. Although the shooting pains have gone, I still find comfort using my 1st class sleeper when I sit in the car, read or watch TV for long periods of time. This is the best $29.95 I ever spent!
Product Review: Didn't work on USAir's tiny seats! Summary: 1 StarsI purchased one of these before our flight to Europe and tried it out on various chairs around the house to see if we thought it would work. Seemed like it would, so I ordered another one so we wouldn't have to fight over it on the plane!! Well, we were in economy class on a US Air flight to Spain from Philadelphia - an 8 hour flight. Once in the air, I happily got out the first-class sleeper, easily inflated it with just a few breaths, and gave it to my husband to settle in. There just wasn't enough leg room for my husband to get comfortable - the seat also just seemed too narrow. (He is is just 5'8" and weighs 170 lbs, by the way). With the seat reclining to its max (a whole inch or two), he just couldn't get into the correct position. Luckily for him, he can sleep anywhere, so he scrunched up against the wall and promptly fell asleep. So, I took the first-class sleeper and tried it thinking it might work for me since I'm smaller. By the way, we were in a row with just two seats. Well, I tried everything - inflating, deflating, etc. and it just wasn't working for me either. So, I ended up using it as a lumbar support which did work - but I never could get comfortable. It was so bad, that I upgraded to envoy class for the flight home.
Product Review: Interesting concept, but not for everyone Summary: 3 StarsI used this device on a flight from Atlanta to Amsterdam. I read the instructions before the flight and practiced using it in a regular chair. But you really can't figure out how to use this in a normal chair because you really need the seatbelt to hold you in place and the back of the chair must be high enough to support your head. Anyway, it was not easy to figure out how much air to put in it since you don't inflate it completely. The guidelines they provide say 10-11 breaths, but are these 25-year-old, workout fan breaths or 55-year-old smoker breaths? At least once its inflated and behind you, the mechanism makes it easy to release air or add air. My biggest issue is that I think I may be too short for it to work for me. I'm 5'2" and it seemed that my head was resting in the middle of the cushion, no matter how often I adjusted it. Also, my feet don't comfortably reach the floor on most planes, so relying on the tension created by pushing against the floor to keep me in place doesn't work. However, the 5'11" Aussie guy in my row tried it and thought it was "interesting." He didn't have all the instructions, so I'm not sure he used it properly. My husband will try it on our flight to Thailand and I will update this review if anything else needs to be said.
