Product Reviews of The Clapper Plus Sound Activated On/Off Switch, 1 EachProduct Review: The Clapper Plus Sound Activated Switch Summary: 5 Stars
It is a great product. I can't seem to get the right clapping sequence but the remote is wonderful. I highly recomend you order the remote clapper.
Product Review: This Unit is a No-Buy! Summary: 1 Stars
The "Clapper Plus" is just another example of more Chinese under-designed, under-tested, useless junk being shipped to unwitting Americans. This unit lasted merely six weeks before malfunctioning and thereafter was relegated to the dumpster. Don't waste your money.
Product Review: Very convenient--Fun to have--A little difficult to master Summary: 4 Stars
I purchased this product about a month ago because I had two floor lamps in the corner that were very hard to reach. I use the clapper to turn them on and off. I'm not sure what the actual electrical rating is, but both of my lamps are 150W incandescent and work great.
The first thing to know is that there are two seperate circuits--one switch responds to two claps, and the other switch responds to three. This means you can control two different lamps with one clapper. Also, the timing is nothing like the commerical. They both toggle on/off and there is not an "on" sequence and an "off" sequence, i.e. *Clap*--wait one full second--*Clap* (to turn the 2-clap circuit on or off). *Clap*--wait one full second--*Clap*--wait another full second--*Clap (to turn the 3-clap circuit on or off). If you do it too fast it will not work. Buttons are the same.
I think this unit is designed for incandescent lamps only. I tried it on a flourescent lamp and it didn't work quite right. There is a little indicator that lights up when something is plugged in that will enable it to operate. I think it has to sense a closed circuit (so the actual lamp switch must be turned in the "on" position obviously) but this doesn't work with a lot of flourescent bulbs. I'm not sure what would happen with other other things.
In general, I like it. You have to clap pretty loudly. Very occassionally it will hear two loud noises and cut off. I clap more than I use the clicker. My friends think its funny that I have it and are kind of amused by it. Occassionally you only have one free hand and then its a pain, but I would buy it again.
Product Review: WARNING: DO NOT PURCHASE Summary: 1 Stars
My wife wanted a clapper for the bedroom, too. I gave her a CLAPPER PLUS as a gag Christmas gift. A little over 30 days later (some 6 days after the warranty expired), we clapped a bedroom lamp off...there was a pop and a flash fire out of the CLAPPER's housing. DO YOU WANT SOMETHING LIKE THAT IN YOUR HOUSE?
Product Review: Waste of money... Summary: 1 Stars
My husband wanted this product. The only good thing about it is the remote. Seriously though, I am not that lazy. Regardless, it is definitely not worth the selling price. I wouldn't pay more than $5 for it.
