The clapper is okay. You need to practice carefully to get the correct timing of the claps to have it work. My daughter is still trying to get this correct, after having it for a few weeks. The remote does work more consistently. However it does solve the problem of having her turn off the lights while she is still in bed and finished reading for the night.Product Review: Piece of Junk

All of the negative reviews are spot on. Bought this for Mom to turn a 40W lamp on. Couldn't get it to work by clapping but it worked with the remote for 4 days. On the fouth day it stopped working and a quick sniff (burnt electronics smell) was enough to tell me it will never work again. The unit is rated at 200Watts per outlet. 40Watts is well below its rating, it should not have burned out. It is now land fill.Product Review: So easy
