Product Reviews of the The Clapper Plus Remote Control For The Clapper Plus (Pack of 2)Product Review: The Clapper & its Remote:100% UNRELIABLE Summary: 1 Stars
First, the concise review: neither "The Clapper" nor "The Clapper Plus" work for long. When they DO work, after 1 to 12 months (max) they are iffy at best, and overwhelmingly temperamental. Getting extra remotes helped us NOT AT ALL. The "Clapper Plus" you buy this year WILL need to be replaced, though you'll be lucky if it works properly for an entire year. If you'd like to read our exact experiences with "The Clapper," "The Clapper Plus," and the replacement remotes for the latter (likely to be yours as well, we think!), read on...
We got our first "Clapper" (we've had two) because our bedroom's lamp had to be in an inconvenient-to-reach spot. It worked pretty well for about 5 months... "pretty well" meaning that we had to clap twice (... or three times... or four, seventeen, seventy...), in whatever pattern/volume "The Clapper" decided it would require in order to operate on any given try. We clapped A LOT; sometimes it worked - eventually; sometimes not at all. Then it just quit entirely. We went over the instructions (such as they are), adjusted & readjusted the settings, looked online (everything we could find), tried other lamps on that outlet to make sure the outlet wasn't to blame (it wasn't). Nothing worked! We got a new "Clapper" and had a repeat of the same experiences.
So... we decided to get "The Clapper Plus." After all, with a remote - no clapping, right OR wrong, would be required! For the first 6-7 months, the remote worked perfectly, every time! YES! Then it died, & stayed dead. We replaced the battery. We tried everything (see previous paragraph). No go. (Oddly, it DID work - but only via hand-claps, with the same problems... & only for several days.) Then, yet again, NOTHING worked! Thinking that perhaps the problem was with the REMOTE, when we saw them for sale on AMAZON, we bought the package of two. This time, the remotes worked for exactly TWO days. Again we tried everything mentioned above; NOTHING WORKED. (We were beginning to get paranoid; it crossed our minds to wonder whether "The Clapper" & "The Clapper Plus" MADE to fail within a year or so - just in time to re-purchase when they reappeared again during the next holiday season? Well, like I said - we were pretty frustrated by this time!)
So, if you do decide to buy this product, we wish you luck & hope your experiences with "The Clapper," "The Clapper Plus," and/or the remotes, will be much better than were ours! **NOTE: Though we aren't senior citizens ourselves, since the product seems to have been aimed, at least partially, at seniors, we feel we should mention that both "Clappers," and the remotes used with "The Clapper Plus" could easily leave seniors (or anyone) with mobility problems, unexpectedly stuck with the light on all night, or worse, stuck in the dark until daylight.**
