Description of Taylor 5584 Salter Housewares Total Body Fat MonitorThe Salter Housewares Total Body Fat Monitor from Taylor is a truly a comprehensive and unique total body health monitoring device. This product not only measures the body fat of the individual, it calculates the body fat distribution between upper and lower parts of the body. This device provides several key measurements to provide a snapshot of the overall body health. Using Bio-electrical Impedance Analysis (BIA), the product sends a harmless, low-voltage signal through the upper and lower portions of the body and takes the resistance (impedance) and converts the data to a percentage. The Salter Total Body Fat Monitor delivers comprehensive body health monitoring with a scale and remote for precise measurements. View remote. |
The "body" image displays the distribution of body fat between the upper and lower part of the body. | This analysis provides a variety of information, such as: - Total Body Fat Percent: Provides the overall body fat percentage as calculated from the two measurements. High body fat increases the risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, gallstones, and osteoarthritis.
- Body Fat Distribution: Graphically displays body fat distribution for the upper and lower body. Holding body fat in mainly the upper body is less healthy and further increases the risk of the diseases listed above.
- Body Water Percent: Displays body hydration percent to determine if the body is properly hydrated.
- DCR (Daily Calorie Reference): This information is explained thoroughly in the following paragraphs.
- Skeletal Muscle Mass Measurement: Weight of the skeletal muscles to more clearly understand body composition.
- Bone Mineral Mass Measurement: Weight of the bone mineral content of the body to more clearly understand body composition (this is not a bone density measurement).
- Comparison: Compares the weight and total body fat percent to an optimal range computed individually for each user.
- Athlete Mode Selection: Specifically programmed to compensation for the increased muscle of persons working out 10-12 hours per week.
- Auto-On for Weighing Operation: Step on the scale to get simple body weight.
- Graduation: 0.2 pounds for weight and 0.1-percent for body fat and body water delivers precise measurements.
Understanding the Optimal Calculations The weight and body fat percent results will be compared to an Optimal Range that is individually computed for each user: - Current weight will be compared to user's optimal weight range (based on gender, age and height)
- Current body fat percent will be compared to user's optimal body fat percent (also based on gender, age and height)
If your current weight and current body fat percent results are not within the user's optimal range, the display will show the deviation from the lower (as a negative number) or upper limit of the range. If the results are optimal, the monitor will read OPT on the display. Daily Calorie Reference (DCR) One of the most distinctive features of the Salter Total Body Fat Monitor is the Daily Calorie Reference information. This information can give you a reference guide as to how many calories you should consume on a daily basis. This information is displayed in three screens: - Current: The amount of calories necessary to maintain the present weight and percent of body fat.
- Maximum: The maximum amount of calories required daily to maintain the optimal percentage of body fat.
- Minimum: The minimum amount of calories required daily to maintain the optimal percentage of body fat.
Unique Display Features The "body" image displays the distribution of body fat between the upper and lower part of the body. When a region of the body image is more filled up, then there is more body fat stored in that part of the body.
The unique dot matrix screen is a complete information center for readings and analysis results. | Directions for Use Even though this product gives an unbelievable amount of information, the product is still easy to use. To begin with, you'll need to input your height, activity level, age, gender, and then you'll choose from "athlete" or "normal" mode. When the display shows "Ready," hold the remote's handles with both hands and step on the scale (barefoot, for best results). The results of the measurements, in order, are: - Weight, Optimal Weight, Deviation
- Body Fat Percent, Optimal Body Fat Percent, Body Fat Distribution Image
- DCR (Daily Calorie Reference) - Current, Minimum, and Maximum
- Body Water Percent
- Skeletal Muscle Weight
- Boner Mineral Weight
The results are then shown on a number of screens:
Body fat information screen displays body fat percent, distribution, and high/low/optimal body fat icon. |
Optimal body fat information screen displays deviation from optimal body fat percent based on age, gender, height and weight. | Other great features include: - High precision strain gauge mechanism for accuracy on weight measurement
- Real time clock
- Metric or Imperial weight and measurement conversion
- Four user memories
- Instant on, auto zero for weight measurement -- just step on the scale to get your weight
- The remote conveniently attaches to the base unit with a magnet when not in use
- English, French and German languages
- 330 pound capacity (150 kilograms)
- Requires one 9-volt battery for scale function (not included), four AAA batteries for remote function (not included), and one lithium battery for clock back up (included).
