The accuracy of fat percentages and other metrics that are provided (except weight)on this scale should be looked upon as rough estimates only. The algorithms to provide the various read outs uses not only the bioimpedence data but also age and level of activity that the user enters. Case in point, I input my correct age of 55 and got a fat percentage of 18.9 %. Stepped off the scale , changed my age to 35 years (without changing other input parameters) and got a body fat read out of 16.5%. A 2.5 % difference. The measured muscle mass, bone and water percentage also changed significantly.
The scale can be useful if following large changes in body composition where the precision of the numbers is not that critical. However, if you need to measure fat percentages with an accuracy of lets say, +/- 1% or so, you will need to look elsewhere.

The Tanita BC533 scale is easy to use. Actually it is a very attractive scale for a bathroom scale. The info it gives also makes it easy to monitor your changes as you impove your health by weight loss or building muscle. I am very happy with it. Would I make the purchase again? Everyone loves to try this scale including all its bells and whistles. There is no problem balancing on this one and our family has three people of varying sizes and weights. The scale seems to be (unforunately for me ;-) ) accurate, however the rest varies. I can vary in % body fat by 2-3% in a day. The muscle mass and water also vary greatly too. I can understand that water might vary in a day but not muscle mass. It did alert me to the fact that my body doesn't have enough water (and perhaps that is one thing impeding my weight loss?!). I am sure the numbers (other than weight) are close enough to assist you for whatever reason you might want to know them.Product Review: So far so good

My husband & I have had the scale for about a month now. It seems very accurate & we like it a lot, but I am uncertain as to the other features of the scale. The body fat percentages, for example, are questionable, yet we do not often utilize those "extra" features. I am very happy with the scale itself. Finally a scale with an accurate and consistent measurement.
