Product Reviews of Tanita BC533 Glass Innerscan Body Composition MonitorProduct Review: I am surprised they can sell this (false advertising) Summary: 1 Stars
I am in the process of loosing wieght and bought the BC533 as it is a nice looking scale with a body fat measurement. The problem is the body fat measurement is no where near accurate. After reading 34% body fat after 3 weeks of exercise I went to the gym to get a checkup and I was 17% body fat. The guy at the gym recommended skin fold calipers. I have been using them for the last month.
Product Review: I bought it because of good reviews - can now confirm them Summary: 5 Stars
I read the Amazon reviews for this product and I'm now able to confirm them. This scale is fantastic, though, honestly, if you are struggling with your weight, the numbers it will give you will not flatter your self-esteem. But that's the whole point, no?
I have 20 lbs of unnecessary weight and I weigh myself every morning. I noticed that weekly or bi-weekly or monthly weigh-ins were just a way for me to deceive myself - I thought I was doing well and made progress, but it turns out I was staying at the same weight. SO I bought this scale in order to track what is really happening with my body day in and day out, so I know what my "normal" baseline is. The readings are very accurate and they provide me the motivation i need to stay with the program. Watching the body fat percentage drop is particularly satisfying. I am on the upper end of "healthy" and "normal", and I want to be more in the middle. This scale allows you to track that extremely accurately.
The other fun and scary thing about it is the "metabolic age" reading. I am 30 but came out as 40 at first. Wow. After a month of going to the gym, I am now "32". Let's hope soon enough I'll be my actual age or younger. If this sounds gimmicky to you, don't worry, I don't take this too seriously. The number is silly, of course, but it does remind you that your weight and your fat/muscle ratio are not what they should be for your age/gender/frame.
Product Review: I can't believe how accurate this scale is. Very Happy! Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this scale because it was highly rated as being accurate, on sale (39.41) and had free shipping. I was only interested in being able to get an accurate weight reading. All the other features were just icing on the cake.
I'm very impressed with the accuracy of this scale. It will even weigh things down to less than one pound with amazing acuracy (within two tenths). I have weighed everything I could find around the house that is sold by weight and it is dead on. It makes a great scale to weigh packages for shipping.
I would have given it a five star rating but I have not used the body composition features very much and don't know if they work as advertised or not. They are nice to have available. Also a larger button to turn it on would have been nice as all the buttons are a bit small to operate with your toe, but it is possible to do so. Otherwise you have to bend over and use your fingers to turn it on and I find that very inconvenient.
I was looking for a highly accurate bathroom scale and that is exactly what I received. I am very happy.
Product Review: I'm HOW FAT? Summary: 5 Stars
If you're brave enough to confront your body composition vitals on a regular basis then this is the scale for you. Easy operation, multiple users (including a guest function), and tons of actionable data about your body composition make this unit a must have for anyone wanting to track fitness goals. I've had the scale 2 years now and looks new and works great!
Product Review: Inaccurate! Do Not Buy This Product Summary: 1 Stars
The scale is inaccurate AND Tanita customer service is NON-responsive!
I have had a Tanita TBF-621 for several years and liked it very much.
However, that made have been because I did not know the Tanitas are INaccurate!
I recently bought a new (and expensive) Tanita -- the BC-533. However, the BC-533 reads body fat almost 30% higher than my TBF-621.
One of these overpriced scales (or perhaps BOTH) are inaccurate.
I wrote North American customer service a detailed email message about this on January 8.
As of today: NO REPLY!
Their lack of response is pretty shoddy for a premium-priced scale. I wonder whether they are afraid to admit their scales are not accurate?
