Product Reviews of Tanita BC533 Glass Innerscan Body Composition Monitor

Product Review: Great scale!
Summary: 4 Stars

I love the scale and all the information it gives you. My only gripe would be that you can't look back more than a day in your history. Easy fix: I just made an excel spreadsheet with all the different fields it measures. I print out a new one every month, and I just keep a daily or weekly tab on my weight/hydration/muscle, etc, etc. The weird thing tho, is it will tell me that my "metabolic age" is anywhere from 12 to 17. The best feature is the "caloric intake" one, as it tells you how many calories you can eat per day to stay at your current weight. It will definitely keep you in check ;)

Product Review: Great scale!
Summary: 5 Stars

Very good scale...all the information you'd like to know for fitness and workout results. Easy to use, accurate and stylish. Of course, it helps to see fat and weight melting away...but this unit gives you the whole story, not just a simple weight measurement.

Product Review: Happy Customer
Summary: 5 Stars

The scale was delivered in a timely manner. I found the instructions to set up the scale was easy. I like that multiple individuals can have their own personal setting. The look of the scale is very nice as well. Because of the glass and brushed nickle it blends in to the bathroom decor well.

Product Review: Heavyweight Scales
Summary: 5 Stars

The device claims to infer from the weight and galvanic data which it measures and height, age, sex, and activity level data which are entered by the user a number of conclusions about the somatic condition of the person standing on its platform. It also displays your weight to the nearest two tenths of a pound. I don't have the faintest idea what "metabolic age" is supposed to mean, but as mine is consistantly computed to be in the low twenties and I am far into my upper fifties I have to admit liking that particular feature - a lot. These scales aren't cheap, but they are well worth their cost if used within a serious program of exercise, diet, and weight control.

Product Review: How to Set this:
Summary: 4 Stars

I gave this 4 stars, but can't really judge it yet.....I have ordered this, and just talked to a Tanita rep. The manuals don't lay all this out, but this is apparently important for getting consistent readings: 1) Weigh yourself at approx. the same time AND later in the day when you are hydrated, and NOT when you first get up in the morning. Your body needs to be hydrated for the bioimpedance aspect of the scales to work well. 2) Whether to set ADULT or ATHLETE mode.....If you typically have a resting heart rate of 60 OR if you work out 10 hours or more weekly, set it for athlete. Otherwise, set it for ADULT.

I hope this model is better than the Tanita TBF 622 I got several years ago, although I admit I didn't know the info I posted above until just now. On my own Tanita I consistently measured a good 5% points higher than on my doctor's $3500 Tanita Professional scale. And then the other day I measured 11% below my Tanita setting when measured at the gym with an Omron hand held fat analyzer. However, I'm sure the same useage requirements apply for the professional scales, and I just hopped on his scales at an arbitrary time, and same case with the gym. Also, previously I was measuring myself in the morning after getting up and before eating. I think I read somewhere that you should also measure about 3 hours after eating.
