Product Reviews of Swiffer WetJet Spray, Mop Floor Cleaner Starter Kit (Packaging May Vary)

Product Review: Good for small, fast jobs
Summary: 2 Stars

While the WeJet may be fast and convenient, it's only really useful for small jobs - for instance, a few muddy pawprints on the kitchen floor or an orange juice spill.

The WetJet is very convenient - you don't have to fill a bucket of water and lug it around with you to mop. The kit is easy to assemble, and the pad just sticks on to the mop.

However, the pad doesn't pick up everything that a mop would. You have to vacuum or sweep before using the WetJet, as the pad only picks up a small amount of debris and just pushes the rest around on the floor. I only have tile in my kitchen and entryway (the rest of the house is hardwood) - so I only clean a small area with the WetJet. Yet, one pad doesn't seem to be enough. They're also rather expensive, as is the cleaning solution (although I suspect you could just as well put PineSol in the container and get the same results). Also, the WetJet is rather loud when dispensing the solution, and it gets annoying after awhile.

Bottom line: it's great for small messes that you need to clean up quickly, but stick to a mop and bucket for bigger jobs.

Product Review: Good mop
Summary: 4 Stars

Much more convenient than a conventional mop, but in the end, it's still mopping. I don't know if I would describe it as "fun" as some of the other reviewers have, but it's definitely less of a chore than the old mop and bucket method.

It gets the floor pretty clean. I have only hardwood floors in my house, so I used the hardwood cleaner for this, and sometimes it leaves a residue.

Overall, it's okay.

Product Review: Good when you want a quick once-over, but not for deep cleaning
Summary: 2 Stars

I'm going to start my review by saying that I have owned my Swiffer for years and years and years. I have children and a husband and a cat. I am a little bit of a clean freak, so I clean often. Everyone takes their shoes off at the front door, except for a few visitors. I used to LOVE my Swiffer. I was so sick of the old fashioned way of mopping. I also used to marvel at how the pad reminded me of a sanitary napkin or a diaper, how it seemed to wick away the dirt to the inside of the pad but leave the surface relatively clean until the thing was really full and sopping - to the point where when you pulled the pad off, it was heavy and you could see all the dirt soaked through to the underside.

Well, something has changed. For the past year, I have been extraordinarily unhappy with my Swiffer. It does not get my floor clean, or at least barely. It pushes around the dirt. After one mopping, I look at the pad, and the surface is covered with a layer of dirt/dust, but the inside is clean. From that point forward, all the mopping keeps sliding that dirt on the pad around the floor rather than sucking it into the pad. I finally will pull the pad off because it is so filthy, yet it is light and dry and there is no dirt visible through the underside. So I go through the pads frequently, much quicker than I used to. And yes, I always sweep or use my Shark floor sweeper or even my Dyson prior to the Swiffer to get up all the loose dirt/hair/crumbs etc. What a difference from my old beloved Swiffer experience!! I'm obviously assuming they have changed something about the pads.

I am so disappointed, I really would not recommend buying a Swiffer these days unless you just want it for very quick clean-ups between moppings. I've heard great things about steam cleaners, I'm going to invest in one. Wish me luck!!

Product Review: Good, easy, light!
Summary: 5 Stars

I guess it's between the steam mop, and the Swiffer WetJet for us lazy floor washers. For me, the Swiffer is "it". I love that it's so light, it takes up so little room - it can be stored anywhere when you're not using it, and you can buy the replacement pads and detergents in most supermarkets now. Also - there's no CABLE involved.

The scents from the different choices of detergents, are more like aroma therapy to me, than floor cleaner scents. My husband thinks they come on a little strong the first 10 minutes or so, but then again - we have dogs, cats and kids, so we need real fresh scents. When I have visitors coming over to a recently cleaned house, they always compliment me on the fresh smelling house. I like that!

As some of the former "reviewers" have commented: The batteries really last a long time. I clean 1600 square feet of hardwood and tile floors 1-2 times a week, and the batteries have lasted me about 6 months every time.

My guess is that what is going to determine if you love Swiffer, or think it's a waste of money, is mainly your "cleaning style". I vacuum every day (not because I'm such a great homemaker, but because I use a Roomba - a robotic vacuum, which I turn on every morning before going to work). The dust from my dogs and cats, running in and out their cat/dog door all day and night, gets picked up by the vacuum, so I have a really easy time cleaning the floors. 30 minutes, half a bottle of detergent, 2-3 cleaning pads, and my floors are done. Compared to the Steam mop, which generally seems to be a little heavy to have glide over the floors for you, the Swiffer pads slide really well! Sometimes, I feel like I'm painting, and not cleaning (lol).

Of course it is a little annoying that the detergent bottles aren't refillable, but it's the price I pay for an easy life with The WetJet. As for the whole disinfecting or not disinfecting the floors:
With a steam mop, you will only be able to disinfect your floors if you hold the mop still, spraying for 15 seconds or more over each part of the floor. The Swiffer WetJet doesn't claim to disinfect the floor, but the detergent will kill 98,5% of the bacterias on the floor. On the other hand: Who needs a germ-free floor? Your feet, pet butts, and only God knows what is going to be on it in a matter of minutes after you finish cleaning anyway.

Last but not least: The Combo pack is cheap to buy, and it actually doesn't break - even when my husband rough houses it around on the floors. I've had my first one for 2 years, and it's still going strong. I just bought a second one for upstairs, so I don't have to move it around.
Five thumbs up from me, on the wetjet :-)

Product Review: Granted, It's Not As Good As Sex, But...
Summary: 5 Stars

My first Swiffer Wet Jet finally broke down after three years of use, not bad for a product that you can buy here for $18.99, and usually find even cheaper in stores.

Since I live in Guatemala, I had to wait months for a new one to arrive. Now, I am the furthest thing from a "neat freak," (as mom would readily attest) but I certainly did miss it.

Although, only when I walked...

Even though I had to pay an extra $26 for shipping and customs, it was still an incredible bargain.

Not only are my floors finally clean again, but I don't procrastinate doing them like I did when I only had a useless old mop.

While waiting for the Wet Jet to arrive, once I did try smearing filthy putrid water from a mop bucket, and I swore never again. I just let my floors get dirty until the Wet Jet finally came.

The criticisms I have read here are ridiculous. People actually complained because they have to sweep the floor before they mop?

How lazy can one be?

I would hate to see the filth on their floors if they never even sweep before they mop!

Yes, the cleaner does spray out a few inches in front of the mophead. I couldn't imagine wanting it any other way. If you are trying to hit a particular spot, just step back a few inches, dude.

Duh...

It is best to first sweep with a broom, then go over the floor with the Swiffer sweeper which statically attracts hairs and fine particles that the regular broom misses, and then finish with the Wet Jet. Three passes, but mopping with the Wet Jet is just as easy as sweeping - no bending, no wringing, no mess.

Just put it to the barefoot test and you'll be amazed. Walk around before and after it dries, and you will cannot help but see and feel the difference on the soles of your feet.

I also have some allergies, but the cleaner doesn't bother me at all.

The only negative is that you can go through the floor cleaner quickly, and it is not cheap. However, the pads are hardly a significant expense.

Thank god I got my Wet Jet back!
