Product Review: Does what it's supposed to do but has limitations

Swash made by Tide is designed to get rid of odors and wrinkles in clothes in just 10 minutes. You toss the Swash sheet in the dryer with up to five garments and run the dryer for 10 minutes to refresh clothes that you don't want to wash right away. If you want a stronger scent, use a lower heat setting on the dryer. The Swash can be used on most garments including dry cleaning, cotton, delicates, linens, etc. It is not recommended for leather, velvet, suede, or fur.

What I like about Swash:

I used Swash on a variety of products including a Christmas sweater I wore just once, some suit jackets that I usually have dry cleaned, some pants that I also have dry cleaned, some wool sweaters, and a top and skirt that need to be hand washed. The Swash worked well on all of them and everything really did look fresher. The wrinkles came out of the garments and 10 minutes go by in no time. I really like the fact that I can use it on products like the Christmas sweater that I only wear once a year for a few hours.

What I don't like about Swash:

It feels too gimmicky. It doesn't remove odors, it masks them. It is not a dry cleaning kit, like Dyrel is. While it does a good job removing wrinkles, you can do the same by throwing garments in the dryer for 10 minutes without the Swash. And while it is masks odors, in turn it leaves a strong odor itself on the garments, which may bother people who are sensitive to strong odors. Not only that, but it is a very noticeable odor and you may want to hang the garments outside before wearing them in public to get rid of the Swash scent (which kind of defeats the purpose of using Swash in the first place).

Bottom line:

Swash does a good job and is useful in a pinch but it has its limitations - laundry detergent and water or dry cleaning is always the best option.

This product intrigued me and I was anxious to give it a try. I had some washable sweaters and cotton-blend shirts that had picked up some odors from restaurants, and jeans that needed a bit of reshaping after wearing. These clothes had only been worn once and were not noticeably soiled. I threw them in the dryer with the swash sheet, as instructed, and set the timer for 10 minutes on normal heat. When finished, the cloths came out with a fresh scent and the bad odors were gone. They all weren't wrinkle-free, however, and did require a touch-up with an iron. I'm sure this result depends on the fabric.

I like the results enough to consider buying it again. It would be an effective product for prolonging the newness of items of clothing that may fade with washing, as well as save on some dry-cleaning costs. It would also save the time that hand washing takes by freshening these types of items that didn't need a full wash and could stand the heat of a dryer. The single-use packets are handy to use and would be easy to pack for freshening clothes while traveling, if a dryer were available.

I didn't mind the scent of Swash and it didn't hang in the clothes for a long time. This product seems to perform as stated and is useful for it's purpose. I recommend it.

All this noted, I think you could achieve the same results with a slightly damp towel and some "fabric fresh" product, but that's just my guess.

Being put in my dry cleaning pile is like a kiss of death for clothing. (The only thing worse is getting put in my sewing basket.) If I like something, I'm going to throw it in the wash even if it is dry cleanable so I can have it back sooner. My dry cleaning goes out in August and January, like clockwork - before the school year starts and after winter break -- and only reluctantly because I hate the smell of the chemicals. I leave dry cleaned clothing out on the clothes line for at least a day when it comes home because of the smell. This product was interesting to me for this reason - to avoid the dry cleaners and the resulting smell -- and because I don't like sending things, like cashmere out.

I pulled five items of different weight and fabric out of my dirty clothes basket to find out what would happen. The cotton sweater I put in was one I don't like to throw in the dryer, but it was wrinkly and used looking. It came out smelling fresh and looking clean. SWASH and the dryer took wrinkles out of a heavy linen dress - one of the hardest items I have ever tried to iron, which is why it goes out for dry cleaning. A middle-weight silk sweater came out looking fresh and better yet, smelling fresh. It was also great on a silk shirt and silk long underwear. The first five items turned out fine.

Then I tried SWASH on items from the dry cleaning stack. Silk blouses, silk vests, linen pants, silk lined pants... (I live in a cold, cold place!) Eventually, five dryer loads later, I made my way through the entire stack. Everything came out feeling perfectly clean and looking fresh. The most noticeable difference? No dry cleaning chemical smell. And no $150 dry cleaning bill either.

The scent to this is noticeable but not unpleasant, maybe a little fruity, but not overwhelming. Because I'm sensitive to so many scents, I was worried that it would bother me or that it would leave a residue on the clothing but it didn't. Better yet it didn't have the chemical smell like Dryel. There was some scent in the laundry room when I used it, but it dissipated pretty quickly. The package clearly says to use the lower temperature if you want a stronger scent. I didn't. I wish it had a cleaner scent but it's hard to know what that would be.

This is a great product. I expect it to become a laundry room staple.

These were a nice surprise because they actually work. Sheets are easy to use and do a great job. They refresh the clothes in a very short time in the drier, so everything smells nicely. They also do a great job at removing dust, lint and hair (I have a dog, so this feature is highly appreciated). They are not able to remove stains, but I wasn't expecting that.

I have been using them on my business suits in between dry cleanings. I will be getting more sheets when I ran out.

Product Review: Freebreez anyone?

This item does not clean nor is it intended to clean stains on clothing. It is not an excuse for washing cloths or going to a cleaners. It works like freebreez by wiping out odors. It makes your cloths smell fresh & clean. So if you wear a pair of jeans or an outfit for 1 or 2 times & want it refeshed then simply pop this in the dryer with the item/items & they will be refreshed.
