Product Review: Sturdy little cycle

This is exactly what I was looking for in the way of a small exercycle - something that wouldn't take up much room, could easily be moved, but was still hefty enough to not slide around during use.

PROS:
- Very solid for such a small device. Doesn't slide during use.
- Has good sized display for tracking time and rotations
- It pedals very smoothly and is quiet
- Seems well built
- Is reasonably priced

CONS:
- Tension control (see details below)
- No over-the-foot straps for pedals
- Can wobble if you don't pedal equally on each side
- Other than time and rotation, read-outs are not very useful

I guess the biggest drawback to the design is the tension control. The tension only applies to one part of the rotation, so you go about 80% around and then hit a difficult spot, push through it, then you're back to easy pedaling again until you hit the part of the rotation that has the tension applied. This makes it extremely difficult to get a rhythm going, although other reviewers seem to have found ways to mitigate this design flaw. I wind up just pedaling more briskly without applying any tension.

Still in all, it's a good product for $60 and, although it doesn't provide a strenuous workout, is very serviceable for when you want a simple indoor session.

Bought this for my dad. He is into his third year cancer free (pancreatic cancer) but was left with pretty bad anemia. His doctor put him on regular physical therapy to help him recover some strength and balance. Because his balance isn't as good as it used to be, it is much safer for him to exercise both arms and legs while seated.

This little mini-cycle works really well for him. It doesn't move around all over the carpeted floor, which is a good thing. But even if it did, it is made in such a way one could use rope loops to keep it fairly well planted in one spot, using the chair legs as anchors.

The one issue I have with it has to do with the less than satisfactory wobble you sometimes get while pedaling. I think they should have done a much better job with that. I'd have gladly paid another 5 to 10 dollars for bearings in a solidly fixed axle.

I still give this a four star rating and would recommend it to anyone needing to use it for light activity such as my dad uses it for.

We needed an excercise devise that we could carry in our travel trailer that would allow a workout of both the upper and lower body. This device fills the bill. Assembly was easy - only the pedals and the stabizing legs needed to be installed. After assembly we used it like a bicycle by sitting in a chair and, after adjusting the resistance to our liking, we found we could give our legs a good workout. then we placed it on a table and used our arms to turn the pedals and again it worked well. We are very pleased with the product.

I have been using this exercise bike 4-5 times a week for 15 minutes,for over 4 years. I am buying a new one because the screws on the back support base came loose and stripped, and now it makes a noise while using it. Should have noticed and fixed it before it went bad. But it has been well worth the price, and worth a new one.
