Product Reviews of Sunbeam Flexible Heating Pad with 5 Heat Settings and 2 Hour Auto-Off, BlueProduct Review: It could only be made better by being wireless (that would rock!) Summary: 4 Stars
OK, so this thing has its quirks... but in the land of heating pads, they ALL do from what I've seen/felt/you get my drift.
The shape may seem weird... it's AWESOME. With the velcroed elastic straps, FINALLY I have a pad I can have STAY on my lower back as I work, and even better, that shape means my shoulder and just below it in the back gets the huge section, one of the skinny parts (with the elastic pieces at the end of each) following my sore shoulder blade, the other skinny bit wrapping around the front by my collarbone... surely I'm not the only person who has that upper pectoral pain (ok so I do have breasts to cause part of that, but lifting, balancing, and other general duties make it sore to the touch). In any case, it feels GREAT wrapped like that, messenger bag style.
The downside? OK, see the gray cord? the remote is down a bit on it... that's fine except my first one wouldn't auto-off so I returned it... what IS annoying is th part where the cord connects to the pad... one side of the pad is hotter than the other (by design), I like the hotter side (it's wonderful), and ... when I put it on my sore right shoulder, that plastic attaching thingermabobber is oftentimes, because I've put it on diagonally, well, it's kinda nibbling on my ear. It's not the kind of nibble that I want, even if it is quite a bit hotter when we're together, you know?
That gripe is so minor... the thing is versatile, comfortable, and (now that I exchanged it for one whose remote worked properly to make it turn off), something I'm very glad I bought! Sunbeam, you guys really did something right this time! (and it was about time!!)
Product Review: Lasted 4 months! Summary: 1 Stars
I bought this to replace the original I had that last well over 5 years. This one is dead after 4 months, and I really need it!
The original wasn't Made in China, this one is. Sick of American companies making their products in China, it's all crap!
Product Review: Lead on the Cord! But great product, with some drawbacks Summary: 3 Stars
Most people don't notice, but the cord has a tag near the plug that warns you have to wash your hands after use, because it contains a chemical known in CA to produce cancer and birth defects.
After you're plugged in, how are you supposed to wash your hands? And just why does a health product contain lead, especially when it is impossible to use this without touching the cord?
Apparently, traces of lead are in many products that we use, and this tag is a requirement just for the state of CA. A little here, a little there, maybe that does have some connection with rising cancer cases...
Otherwise, this would have gotten good marks. It has these great stretching straps with velcro, which means you can attach it anywhere. Including on the body of the pad itself, which means you can tighten it a lot.
And it does heat well. For people who complain otherwise, in some cases it might be the injury itself that is preventing them from feeling the heat. As any physical therapist will tell you, inflammation and other things affect how much we tolerate heat. When I started with this, I needed to go to the highest setting (7+). Now more than 4 makes me uncomfortable. Plus the underside of my arm tolerates the same temperature less well, so I put a towel. Beware, you can get a slight burn if this is too hot, especially if it touches bare skin. They say that clearly.
Finally, I use it for the shoulder. This is the one drawback. Though the straps are a great feature, this still does not attach easily or comfortably on the shoulder. It keeps slipping off. And unless you like getting electrocuted, pins are a very bad idea (they are clearly warned against).
So I wish they will make one product that can fit the shoulder specifically; there is clearly a market niche for that. For now, I just bought a thick velcro piece and extended the strap--works great!
That, and find something that does not cause cancer to use on their cords...
Product Review: Love it but..... Summary: 4 Stars
I've gone through 3 of these heating pads in about 1.5 years. The first one was a gift, the second a replacement by Sunbeam and the last one a gift. I love the size of it, the fact that it doesn't bunch up and the 2 hour auto-off but it will work fine one minute and the next it's gone. I got the F1 reading meaning it's finished. I'm so dissappointed that mine died but I don't think I will invest in another one as much as I love the thing.
Product Review: Love this Product! Summary: 5 Stars
I took this with me when I went to combat training before deploying to Kuwait and I used it everynight. At home it's great for moving around in the kitchen and it doesn't wrinkle like the other pads.
