I bought this humidifier and decided to try it out in my house.. I noticed that like some people said that it shot mist up 6 inches and then got the area aound it wet. It did that at my house, but after looking at the Humidstat (checks the humid levels) my room was at 75% humid.. That is why it got everything wet.. not rocket science.
When i have it at work (which is about 30% humid) it works just like it said it does..
If you notice that moisture is starting to build under the unit... then the humid level in your room is perfect. If you are looking for something that turns on and off to the humid level.. this one is not for you.

i purchased this for my small dorm room, set it right next to my bed and there was no change in humidity. you have to stick your face on top of the mist to even notice a difference. it lasted 6 hours at most, it woun't even last a whole night.Product Review: excellent for small space

This humidifier has been great for individual use---planning to purchase one for each child in college. The blue light was a bit bright so i put a piece of electrical tape over it to tone it down but it is still visible incase i need to change the mist control at night. The water reservoir is sometimes difficult to grip well enough to get off but that is minor. It seems to be the perfect size and output for a night stand but may not do so well if across the room. I like having a humidifier that is not large and heavy and no filters necessary. If placed on the lowest setting it easily lasts the night , I usually put it on the high setting and though it runs out before morning it seems to do its job well enough that that doesn't matter.Product Review: good travel humidifier

I have a lot of trouble with dry air in hotels when I travel, especially during the winter in the mountains. This is a good humidifier that easily fits into a carry on bag.
The biggest problem I had with it is that it doesn't quite last a night's sleep. So what I did was right after checking in, I would turn on the humidifier on HIGH. Go out, eat dinner, etc. Then just before going to sleep, I would refill it and set it on LOW. Even though it would run out, the humidity would be at a comfortable level. So I can sleep restfully.
Notes: it does get the area around it wet, so you may want to set it on a towel (plenty of extra's in hotels). And depending on the water quality, it can leave mineral-like deposits. So you may need to clean it after each use (or maybe use filtered water).

I agree with all the bad reviews. It lasts about 6 hours, is noisy and shoots a short stream of humidity straight up. We have to get up in the night to refill, and its hard to pull the resevoir off the base. We bought 2 and are returning them.
