Product Reviews of Sprouting Strainer LidProduct Review: they work great Summary: 5 Stars
These work just fine, don't pay too much attention to reviewers who were having trouble draining out water through these. Yes the holes are tiny, they need to be if you are sprouting tiny seeds. Yes the water won't easily go thru the holes, unless you do it right. A little patience and experimenting are necessary. For instance, when adding water, I just put the lid in direct contact with my faucet, and viola, the added pressure helps the water go right in and keeps it from running off the sides. And when draining, you need to have the jar tilted while upside down, otherwise the tiny seeds and/or sprouts can block the holes. Plus the tilt allows for air movement which is necessary.
I think some of the negative reviews involved people attempting to sprout chia seeds. Chia creates a gel when the seeds are in water. The gel/seeds will gum up the holes in the lid, thats why a grow medium is used for chia sprouts. A little research is a good idea before leaving negative reviews.
I recommend these lids over ones that have metal screen, because of rust issues and poor quality control, just cuz it says stainless steel doesn't mean it is. I also think these are better than using fabric as there are mold issues, and damp cloth won't allow air flow as well. These are simple, easy to clean, and work great.
I would love to see higher quality ones being made, the plastic is a bit cheap, but remember, they cost less than $5.
Product Review: works great Summary: 5 Stars
A little slow on draining because of the nature of the plastic vs. stainless screen. But the advantages outweigh the disadvantages and I plan to buy 4 more.
