My 3-year-old has a problem with sleep. We have been struggling since she was born. She never ever falls asleep on her own. I envy the moms whose kids fall asleep watching TV or sittimng in their high chairs. Left to her own devices, she might go to sleep around midnight. There is some research behind this medication for children. The studies are with children with neurodevelopmental problems (such as autism) and ADHD. In these children, it has been shown to be safe for long-term use. There is a small study for "normal" children that shows it is safe up to a month. (The study didn't last longer than a month.) Side effects can include daytime drowsiness and nightmares. My daughter has not had any side effects. we give it to her at 8pm. She gets sleepy by 8:30pm -- she actually asks for her bibi and books. We read 2-3 books and she falls asleep. She wakes up happy and rested.
She likes this particular brand. It tastes good. If you use it for your hild, make sure you tell them not to chew it -- it needs to dissolve in his or her mouth.
Talk to your child's doctor before starting this medication for your child, but it may work well for you, too.

Dietary Supplement. Peppermint flavored sublingual. Source Naturals Melatonin Complex is a soothing nighttime formula which combines the neurohormone melatonin with three key inhibitory neurotransmitters, GABA, glycine, and taurine; and with Coenzymated Vitamin B-6, the active form of Vitamin B-6. Some nutrients may break down during liver metabolism. The sublingual form is absorbed directly into the bloodstream, via the blood vessels under the tongue, and in the cheeks by passing the liver and allowing for quick entry into the system. Suitable for vegetarians. Contains no yeast, dairy, egg, gluten, soy or wheat. Contains no sugar, starch, salt, preservatives, or artificial color, flavor or fragrance.Nutritional Supplements
