Product Reviews of Source Naturals DL-Phenylalanine 750mg, 60 Tablets (Pack of 2)

Product Review: Did not work for me.
Summary: 3 Stars

I ordered this as a weight loss supplement as per an article I read in a health magazine. Although I had to quit taking it within a few days because it made me have terribly difficult bathrooming sessions. Something that has never happened to me before. And I also struggled with a little bit of depression while taking it. I did like the fact that it came in tablet form rather than gelatin capsules and so forth. But I do suggest being careful with this supplement, I think the brand itself is a good one. But I just couldn't handle it.

Product Review: High Quality Endorphin Booster
Summary: 5 Stars

Source Naturals DLPA is a high quality amino acid compound; each tablet delivers 750 mg of dlpa, which can help increase endorphin levels in the brain. DLPA can be used to help raise dopamine levels, which in turn can make you feel more alert, improve memory, increase stamina, (possibly) reduce food cravings, and reduce pain.

I use it as needed in the mornings (2 capsules, i.e. 1500 mg) if I have post-workout pain from the day before or hand pain from golfing. I've used other brands and Source Naturals compares favorably with them all; I believe it to be a high quality supplement & this is the one I buy myself (good deal on Amazon's Subscribe & Save program).

VERY IMPORTANT: always take amino acids like DLPA on an EMPTY STOMACH, preferably with water. Wait at least 45 minutes before eating (coffee is OK). This allows the amino acid to be absorbed into the bloodstream and then the brain, unbound to any other proteins (amino acids are all constituents of protein). If you're taking this with food, you're wasting your money!

I'm not a doctor, but I think I read somewhere that people on antidepressants should not take amino acids without talking to their doctor first. Always a good practice to thoroughly research any supplement before adding it to your regimen. I highly recommend these two books for anyone wanting to learn more about the power of amino acids: The Mood Cure: The 4-Step Program to Take Charge of Your Emotions--Today and (for the more scientifically oriented reader/aka knowledge geeks):The Healing Nutrients Within: Facts, Findings, and New Research on Amino Acids. Good luck!
