Product Reviews of Sonic Alert SBT425ss Digital Sonic Boom Loud Vibrating Alarm Clock with Telephone SignalerProduct Review: Awsome vibrating alarm clock! Summary: 5 Stars
Sonic Alert SB200 Sonic Boom Loud Vibrating Alarm ClockI love this vibrating alarm clock. It is so easy to set up and really easy to set the alarm. It even has a back-up, with a battery, for when the power goes out. The last vibrating alarm clock I had was bulky with a large motor to put under the mattress or boxspring. This one has a small motor that fits in the palm of your hand. It is also a convient size to travel with, whereas, I couldn't take my old one anywhere. I highly recommend this device. THUMBS UP to the inventor!
Product Review: Boom is not so booming Summary: 2 Stars
This alarm clock is in a box in my attic waiting on a yard sale. The problem is 2 fold. The vibration wakes up my boyfriend and the "sonic boom" doesn't wake me up. I don't know what they were thinking when they tried to make this alarm clock seem loud. I got a 15 dollar alarm clock from Target that would wake the dead and it works just fine for me. Another problem with the vibration is that I toss and turn and the thing always ends up on the floor, no matter where i put it. I would not recommend wasting your money.
Product Review: Does not repond to Sonic Alert signallers Summary: 2 Stars
I bought this to replace a Sonic Alert SB1000 that had started to fail after several years use and a few too many power surges. I chose this model because I prefer the upright design and the built in signal lights (as opposed to plugging a lamp into the SB1000). After receiving this model and reviewing the directions I realized this will not receive signals form out baby cry monitor or doorbell signaller; it does not have the "built in receiver" of the SB1000.
We did not use this model, so I cannot comment on its performance. One comment on some of the other reviews; based on my experience with other Sonic Alert products, I would be surprised if this device, used properly, will not wake someone up. This particular model has both volume and tone adjustments for the audio alarm; when adjusted properly, these should wake just about anyone with mild to moderate hearing loss. As for complaints of the shaker falling off the bed; of you secure the shaker to the underside of the pillow or the sheet under the pillow (with a safety pin around the cord and clipped to the pillow or sheet, for example), it shouldn't get away from you. My wife, who is fully deaf, has used one for years without it failing to wake her.
Product Review: Does what I expected Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this for my 75 year old hard of hearing Mom. After searching and searching, I came across this alarm clock and read all the reviews. And to be honest, the reviews were right. This alarm can wake the dead. So, a couple of points ... the alarm is indeed loud and the vibrator indeed vibrates pretty strongly. The alarm is easy to set and by easy - my Mom can do it. We (the family) first did a dry run with it just to hear it and we all agreed that we would have no problem waking to this alarm. My Mom took it home and tried it and it worked like a charm. The only downside is this ... for the vibrating part, you really need to buy the extension cord for it which I didn't do. Also, it has a cord to plug into your phone jack to alert you to calls as well but if you don't want to use it that the cord just hangs there. Not the most wonderful thing to look at but still an irritant. But all in all, the alarm works well. It is loud. No doubt about that. Of course, we were worried my Mom's neighbors are probably getting the pleasure of her alarm too!
Product Review: Effective until it malfunctions Summary: 1 Stars
This alarm clock is generally effective, with the ample vibrating along with a loud alarm if you need even more push to get out of bed.
The problem is the clock unit. It feels cheap, and performs only so-so. It appears as though it was purchased in a dollar store, or at the check-out counter at your local convenience store. You have to push the buttons hard to change the alarm time, etc. The buttons feel as though they have a weak electrical connection. They don't contact unless you really press on them. It is a poor design and cheaply made. Also, it doesn't keep good time.
Worst of all, after only 6 months or so, the clock malfunctioned. I woke up to the vibrating puck going off (erradically) and I could not shut it off. Turning the alarm "off" like I do every morning had no effect. I had to unplug the vibrating device. There's one thing that alarm clocks need to be, and that is DEPENDABLE. This one is not.
