Until I got the heat pad, I did not know that it was not designed to lie on or lean against, which I do anyway for my sore back. But it should have had a lower heat setting so that it would not become too hot when I lie on it ot sit against it on a sofa with little room for heat to escape. I bought this heating pad for my husband because of certain ailments he has. He was very pleased at how well and quickly it heated and maintained warmth. Most heating pads I had bought in the past did not heat at all too good. Was very pleased to have found this pad and would buy another one for our household or as a gift.Product Review: I too love this, no auto shut off!

I use these for new born pups, older dogs, etc. The auto shut off is not desirable in that instance, as another reviewer stated. I very much dislike the auto shut off pads and will not buy them. It is getting harder to find them without that feature. This is a good, inexpensive and durable product.Product Review: I will take anything without an automatic shut off

After reading the review regarding no automatic shutoff, I purchased 4 Soft Heat heating pads. Larger would be nicer, but they heat well and as they don't have automatic shutoffs, I will be going back for more. Target sells them for 9.99.
For many years, we have been buying heating pads for our arthritic and renal failure pets and for ourselves also. I recently purchased some Dunlap heating pads with automatic shutoffs by mistake - even though many of them do not seem to last more than a few months, the larger size is nice and they are cheap. It was not great to check on one of our more critical pets to find his new Dunlap control blinking red and the pad cold. I WILL NEVER KNOWINGLY PURCHASE ANOTHER HEATING PAD WITH AUTOMATIC SHUTOFF!!
