After using these wipes, my initial thoughts are they do a decent job. They are pretty wet right out of the container, and a bit sudsy, and allow you to clean a rather large surface area. It is good that they are wet, because the packaging says to disinfect you should leave visibly wet for 10 minutes and allow to air dry. Honestly, after wiping something down, I don't watch it and time it to see if it is visibly wet for 10 minutes. I guess I just hope it stays wet for a long enough period to kill the 99.9 germs the package says it will, including influenza virus.
I don't find the smell bad. It is certainly better than some chemicals I've cleaned with, but maybe not as "fresh" smelling as some of the other scented wipes I've used. The smell does tend to stay on your hands for quite a while afterwards, so if you don't want that you may want to clean with gloves. However, while cleaning with gloves is the norm for certain cleaning with certain chemicals, you usually don't want to glove up before using a simple wipe. That's why you use wipes. Therefore, you end up with your hands smelling for a while.
One thing I didn't like was the warning that "no rinsing or wiping is required except on direct food contact surfaces which require a potable water rinse after treatment." This was after the instructions to leave on wet for 10 minutes to disinfect. If I used one for the counter that will have food on it, I don't really want to come back after 10 minutes to wash the counter down with water. So I see these being used in other rooms than the kitchen more. I especially like them for wiping down certain exercise equipment and mats after use.
I like the idea of more natural cleaners and less toxic chemicals. I like that Seventh Generation provides products that are more environmentally responsible. I think the bottom line for most people will be the smell. If you like it, you'll use these wipes. If you don't, especially since the smell stays on yours hands a while, you won't. I can't prove that they kill 99.99% of germs, but I'm taking the packaging on face value and sure hope they are. (I would say the same about any wipes and claims)
If you are looking for a more environmentally friendly disinfecting wipe, I'd say give these a try. I'm guessing it will be how you feel about the smell that will determine if you purchase again. We didn't mind the smell and found them to be good wipes.
