Customer Review: As a standalone product it doesn't clean

Always looking for ways to do nothing, I decided to try this product. The first issue you'll have to deal with is placing a lid on the dirty gel dispenser after sticking the gel to the toilet, then finding somewhere to store the unit. Potential yuck factor for some but I just keep it in the box it came in. I'm not a fan of the scent either - smells more like chemicals than citrus.
None of that would be an issue if it cleaned but it doesn't - at all. My toilet gets as dirty as quickly as it did in the past. If that's not proof enough, consider that it gets dirtiest where the water pools in the bottom of the bowl, the area that all of this cleaner is supposed to be collecting in.
Here the interesting thing, though. Combined with a standard toilet brush it is a powerful cleaner. It works better than a scrub brush and Comet, frankly. So lately I've been dabbing the gel with a brush and scrubbing the toilet with the brush when needed and it has worked well. No self-cleaning toilet, though, and the perfume overwhelms so much I won't be buying a replacement.
