I wouldn't chew it over regular gum. the texture is lost after 10 minutes. but thats not its purpose. the purpose is to give you alertness quickly. and it does just that. As a dental student, I study for hours on end. Often I feel drowsy sitting in front of a computer. I'll pop one of these guys, and it gives me a nice jerk. Will keep purchasing until school is over.Product Review: good stuff

After chewing two pieces of this gum in the morning I feel completely alert - in about 15min) as if I had spent an hour drinking a few cups of coffee (my former morning routine).
I think the gum has a pleasant cinnamon taste; however, some of my friends complain of an aftertaste.

I love coffee, the taste of it and it's effects on making me awake, alert, and creative... that said, sometimes getting a cup of joe can be inconvenient. Enter Stay Alert gum! Yowsa, within a minute or two you realize you're a lot more awake, much faster than drinking coffee or any energy drink. If getting awake fast is your goal, this gum is your solution.
I'm not sure what medical issues the gentleman who posted two stars who wanted to downgrade his review to one stay but clearly he has some type of mouth problem (or other issue) is he's not getting the effect quickly. The majority of the other reviews here though are spot on, including, sadly, the taste, it's pretty awful, that said, it doesn't last long (thankfully). I've tried the others including Jolt, they do not pack a punch like this gum.
Now the only reason I'd see fit to want to deduct half-a-star though it'd only be a personal thing, it does, when taken too many and/or following coffee, for me, give me some heart palpitations. Like the other person said, it'd be hard to consume 10 cups of coffee without knowing you're doing so and potentially giving yourself a caffeine overdose. The directions are very clear that you start with one, wait for the effect, then if you need another take two. Consider these like any serious drugs, these aren't for kids but adults with good cognitive reasoning. Be responsible with this product.
Product Review: worried about health consequences

I have been using this product for over two years now. I think it is ok, and I plan to continue buying it, although not as often as I thought I would when I first came across it. But people should probably be aware of one concerning issue I found since the early days: after chowing a total of 2-4 per days during 2-3 days in a row my tongue becomes full of painful little white bumps. If I don't stop right then, the problem worsens and it just doesn't give up. It gets increasingly painful if I don't give it a break until it goes away, usually after 3-5 days. I contacted the manufacturer two years ago, asking about this problem. I wanted to know if they were aware of it or of similar complaints by other users. I asked them if they have performed studies showing it is not harmful (I did not ask them to show proof that the product is healthy or even effective, just NOT harmful; according to FDA regulations, over-the-counter products may not be effective but there is nothing they can do about it because there is just no regulation regarding effectiveness of supplements and vitamins; however, the FDA will remove the product from the shelves if there is proof of negative side effects on human health). Unfortunately, I never got a feedback from the company, despite an initial email they sent me saying they were going to get back to me asap. After realizing that they were not going to contact me I told them that I was going to contact the FDA, just to put a little pressure, but I never got feedback. I have not yet contacted the FDA, because I am lazy and don't have much time, and I will probably give the company one more chance to answer my concerns before I get serious on this issue. I think it's important to put my complain officially on the record. I have currently no idea what the long-term consequences of this thrush-like reaction on my tongue is. I asked my dentist and he had no idea either; I went to my doctor thinking it may be fungus-related, and he told me he never saw anything like it, but it definitely was not fungus or a thrush of any kind. I have of course made many experiments with myself during these two years and demonstrated unequivocally that the problem is related to the use of this product. I just hope it will have no impact on my tongue's health in the long term. Foolish of me for not stopping, but we all have our little vices, I guess. I decided to write this review so other users know of my experience and know they are not alone. (by the way, I noticed many users complaining about the taste of the gum. Well, unless you are a female or a very sensitive male who has not yet been exposed to the realities of life, I cannot see how this can be a complain at all. The idea is to use it to stay alert. The taste is neither good nor bad, and who cares anyways?)
