I'm getting over a mild/moderate lower back inflammation and have found these patches to be a very useful part of rehabbing (along with NSAIDs and a stretching regime). I'd recommend trying them for any condition for which heat has been prescribed as a treatment modality, as the physiological effect of capsicum absorption is basically the same as for applied heat, namely increase in blood circulation to the area. The Salonpas formulation is, in my experience, considerably more effective than something like the Tiger Balm menthol patches that contain a small amount of capsicum, not enough to provide a real warming effect. I haven't found it intolerably hot, either, unlike some of the capsaicin ointments or roll-ons that have a higher percentage of active ingredient. There is at least one clone of this Salonpas patch sold at CVS; it is similarly effective but made with a stiffer and therefore less comfortable backing.
