Product Review: Allows me to easily shave my own head
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a great product and the only one I know of that allows you to shave your own head this easily. I use this once a week to keep my hair buzzed short and it takes maybe 5 to 10 minutes each time. You basically use it like a comb in long strokes. After many, many months of use, one of the plastic clips came lose after cleaning it, but it didn't impair function, particularly after placing the guide back on (I use the shaver on its lowest possible setting for the closest possible cut--I still have a full head of hair, but it looks better and is easier to manager closely cut). Frankly, for as little as this costs, I don't mind buying a new shaver once a year or so.

Product Review: Almost perfect
Summary: 4 Stars

I saw an ad in a magazine for the Short Cut and thought it would be perfect for me. I've been buzzing my head for about a year now and I use no attachments so its as short as it gets without using a razor. I tried the Short Cut out this morning for the first time and I'll give it an A- overall.

It did seem to come with some sort of charge but I charged it overnight to be safe, didn't want to run out of battery halfway. As others may have pointed out be aware that the attachment installed when you first open it is the 'balding' attachment which will have no change if you set the adjustable numbers higher, its for super short only. Normally I cut my hair about every 5 days. I sometimes do it more often but waiting a few days in between makes it easier to see what's been cut and what hasn't. I used the Short Cut this morning after about 3 and a half days or growth. Overall impression is it works very well. Being that I wasn't taking much length off it did take a few more passes than normal to get everything but it definitely does clip on both the back and forth movements. What I really liked is there seemed to be no way to cut myself which is a constant worry with regular clippers. It took a couple minutes to figure out the best angle to get all parts of my head; some parts cut better front to back, some side to side. It just depends on the way your hair grows. What threw me off at first is it doesn't make as much 'grinding' noise as its cutting. Its quieter overall which is nice, although the 'grinding' sound is usually my audible confirmation that I definitely cut a patch of hair. The front and sides cut pretty easily but where this thing really shines is in back. It only took me about 20 seconds to do the whole back of my head. With regular clippers I'd do the back and then have to spot check with a mirror.

The only real problem I had was with my sideburns. Maybe its just the shape of my head but I couldn't get it to sit low enough to get them. I eventually found a way of doing it but it put the Short Cut dangerously close to my eyebrows so I'll have to be really careful. There is another small flat trimmer that pops out of the top but it seems to be a little shorter than the curved blade so it might make my sideburns a tad too short, I'll experiment next time.

Just for comparison I whipped out my old clippers to see how close the Short Cut actually cuts. The clippers did cut a tiny bit shorter but it was totally negligible, the hair that fell into the sink was as thin as powder so the Short Cut seems to trim just as short.

Pros:
-cordless
-curved blades hug my head well and cut both back and forth
-30 minutes of runtime is adequate for a couple uses before recharging
-nicking yourself is almost impossible
-fits very well in my hand

Cons:
-some places are hard to reach with curved blade
-needs to be shaken out once a minute or so, the hair tends to fall in instead of out as you cut so it can get clogged up but a quick shake or tap clears it out.
-no carry case included
-relatively long charge time (says 14-16 hours for full recharge)

Overall I like it and I'll use it from now on. The small size and cordless power is especially nice for traveling too :)

Product Review: Almost perfect

This product is great if you want your hair no longer than a zero; otherwise, it is very difficult to get an even cut.

Product Review: Amazing
Summary: 5 Stars

I am amazed at the versatility of the Remington Short Cut Clipper. I have keratosis on my scalp and favor a nearly bald hair length to facilitate medicating, which this delivers without undue interference with the keratosis scaling. But the adjustability also allows me to have more length on the sides and the back. A friend recently commented on how good my haircut was. When I told her that I did it and with what, she remarked that she wished it had been available when she went through chemotherapy years ago and lost her hair then grew it back. All this and it pays for itself in less then 3 uses!

Product Review: Amazingly, this product works great (although for short hair only)
Summary: 5 Stars

I've been using this product for the past three months, and I couldn't be more pleased. It produces the same quality haircut as the barber shop, and it's as quick and convenient as shaving.

I have to admit, I did not have high expectations when I ordered this product from Amazon. After it arrived, it took me another month to work up the courage to use it. Finally, on the first day of my vacation, when I knew I would have time to grow out my hair a bit if the clipper made a mess of things, I took the plunge.

It turns out that the clipper is incredibly easy to use. Because of the curved design and bidirectional cutters, the optimal motion is very similar to shaving. You just "comb" the clipper back and forth around your head until you've covered all areas. It's amazingly simple and produces very even results. You can literally use it with your eyes closed.

I have not had the problem noted by another reviewer of clogged blades. I keep my hair trimmed short (about 1/4 inch, or the No. 2 comb on a traditional hair clipper), and the short hairs just fall away. I suspect that this trimmer is really only suitable for short hair.

Two issues you should note, though:
1) The trimmer comes from the factory with the balding comb attached. You need to pop it off and replace it with the comb that let's you set hair length. This is a silly way to ship the clipper -- unless you read the instructions carefully, you might miss this important detail and end up with an essentially shaved head. Remington should ship it with the safer comb and let you switch to the balding comb.
2) The trimmer doesn't have a battery gauge like many shavers, and it cannot run directly off AC power (it won't turn on when plugged into the charger). This can be inconvenient if the trimmer runs out of power half way through a haircut. I've made it a habit to charge the trimmer once a month whether it needs it or not. A batter gauge would be nice. [Update 19 March 2011: The clipper is now about 2 1/2 years old, and the batteries don't seem to hold a charge as well any more. The clipper still works fine, but now I need to charge it after every use, or the battery dies half way through the next haircut. I wish the batteries were replaceable. I bought another one last month in case the batteries on the original fail completely.]

Bottom line: This clipper has exceeded my expectations. It allows me to cut my own (admittedly short) hair at home as easily as shaving, rather than having to make trips to the barber shop. It has already paid for itself, let's me cut my hair more frequently (and therefore avoid the "hey, you got your hair cut" syndrome when I'd let it get too long before cutting), and is super convenient. What a nice surprise.
