Product Reviews of Remington MS2-390 Microscreen Rechargeable/Corded Men's ShaverProduct Review: No where near a razor Summary: 2 StarsI bought this because of a Consumer Report review but I have to say that the shave is no where close to a razor
Product Review: Remington MS2-390 Very disappointing Summary: 1 StarsVery disappointed in the shaver, but very impressed by Amazon who are giving me a full refund.
I'm clean shaven since I only have a have a light growth, but the shaver was always missing the odd hair, so I was routinely using the trimmer while shaving. The instuctions say to never press hard while shaving, but that only gave a mediocre shave. Pressing harder gave a better shave, but also occasional cuts and now, after just two months of use, a foil that needs replacing. The trimmer is awkward to use for trimming sideburns, nose or ear hair. The head easily comes off during shaving if you accidently touch one of the release buttons.
I like the ease of charging, the dual voltage and the overall unit, but as a shaver it is very disappointing for something recommended by Consumer Reports. I used a Braun foil shaver for years without any problems, not even needing a new foil, while for the last ten years I have been using a Norelco rotary.
Maybe it is just my minimal facial hair, but I'd be very hesitant about recommending this shaver to anyone. A big thank you to Amazon for the full refund. I'll be back for a new Norelco!
Product Review: Decent shaver, but Remington build quality is going downhill slowly Summary: 4 StarsMy previous 3-foil Remington MS3-2700 performed admirably for quite a few years, but the battery was beginning to wear out and replacement foils are no longer readily available from Remington. The closest replacement I could find was this MS2-390. They're almost identical in appearance other than the earlier model has 3 blades and this one has 2. My thoughts after a month with it:
PRO
- cuts as well as the old Remington on my hair (still not as close as a blade, but I prefer the convenience)
- battery life is as advertised -- about 2 weeks of 4-5 minutes shaves
- no noisier than my old Remington, and not a problem for me (I think the reviews complaining of noise are from folks moving from rotaries or blades)
CON
- on the old MS3-2700, the trimmer popped up instantly. On this shaver, it rises up ever-so-slowly (about 2 seconds from button push to full height). It's annoying having to wait that long for the trimmer.
- the blades are held to the body/motor by clipping them to two plastic posts. The posts have a half-circle hole at the top--about 200 degrees circumference--and the blades clip into this hole via a small plastic mount. When cleaning the shaver with the supplied brush it is very easy to pop the blades off the posts. Since this is a simple plastic friction-fit, I'm concerned this attachment will be the first thing to wear out. I now brush very carefully with downward pressure on the blades to try to keep them from popping off too often.
Overall it's a nice shaver, but there seems to be a little more engineering for cost control rather than durability on this unit when compared to my previous Remington. It's subtle, but I'm still going to knock off a star for it.
Product Review: Piece of crap is right! Summary: 1 StarsI received this from Remington as a replacement for a shaver that i liked that broke. After not being initially happy with it compared to the one i sent back, I started to like it because it had a close shave. It did not take long for a foil to start wearing away on one end. I have never had this problem with any other foil shaver. If you don't want a extremely noisy shaver that makes you buy foils routinely in order to use the shaver, don't buy this no matter what the price. You are better off buying a better shaver that does not wear away foils so fast.
Product Review: Shaves close and quickly Summary: 5 StarsI bought this because Consumer Reports said it gave a very close shave; most of my shavers always left more bristle than I wanted. And they took too long. This I found truly fast, truly easy to clean, and it gives a genuinely close shave. I know that most electric shavers aren't nearly as good after a year or so as when they are new, and I've only had this a short time. But I do love it, at least for now.
