The Johnson Access flosser itself is widely available at drug stores but the refills are not. Thanks to amazon, I can now get them when I need them.
Few people can floss easily with regular dental floss and give up a wise habit. These custom refills used with the manual or electonic base make everyone, even those with limited use of their hands, able to make the flossing habit a morning ritual.
I miss the original refills which were available more cheaply in bulk in 2006, but the new 'flavored' 28-packs work just as well.
It seems the manufacturer wants you to buy a new base when you run out of refills, since in stores today, that's the only way they are sold. But thanks to amazon, this is no longer necessary.
I've re-ordered refills-only several times and amazon's supplier is very reliable.
Another example of why more people are shopping online -- because chain stores are failing to stock items we all use daily when they are no longer new on the market. Amazon in particular is as product-conscious as they are service-friendly.
